Refugee Week Refugee Week Different Pasts - Shared Futures
York Refugee Week aims to educate, spark debate, and raise money in order to respond to different aspects of the current refugee crisis.
With over 19.5 million refugees worldwide (UNHCR), there is a vital need for a unified respond this escalating crisis. From the 18th-22nd January, York Refugee Week will address different aspects of this crisis through education and fundraising. With support from the UNHCR and United Rescues, events will focus on such themes as LGBTQ and Women’s rights, climate change migration, and challenging misconceptions of refugees.

The last day! How did we get here to fast?

World Cinema Society are showing El Norte, an epic story about the hardships of undocumented workers. They meet every week in V/045 and watch some fantastic films. They are well worth supporting, and are a great group of people.

Thursday! The day we've all been waiting for!
Starting off with YUSU Volunteering bracelet work shop in Yourspace from 2-4, come make something pretty and support a great cause.
Then our fantastic Women's Officers have prepared a sit down and chat about responses, actions and reactions from the crisis to discuss and inspire, NOTE it's in LMB/ 036 (oh, nice room! thanks room booking system!) and there will be juice, biscuits, AND mini muffins (including a vegan option!) 5- 6.30
Following that, at the United Rescues talk we will hear about people in York saving real refugee lives in the Mediterranean. Joanna, who is speaking to us, gets back from Calais today, so she's incredibly knowledgable and inspiring! 6.30 in LMB/030 (convenient room booking, thanks booking system!).
