What an amazing afternoon we had on the green on Monday celebrating the village festivities! Our Maypole team did a fantastic job opening the May Day Fair and looked absolutely brilliant in their new skirts, kindly purchased by FOSS.. A huge thank you to Mrs Paxton and Mrs Ashworth for organising the team and preparing them so well over the past few months, and to our parent helpers Laura and Elisa for their weekly support at Maypole Club.. An incredible £1,440 was raised on the day by FOSS — thank you to the entire FOSS team for running and organising the stalls and activities, and to all our families who attended and donated so generously. A truly wonderful community event!

Eco Warriors in action! 🌱
Our Eco Warriors have been extremely busy this week creating signs to place around school in conjunction with World Earth Day. They have made a fantastic set of eye‑catching signs, reminding everyone how we can look after and care for our planet. Brilliant teamwork from the group, and a huge thank you to Mrs Carrack, our Eco Warriors lead, for organising and supporting the team.

DT in Action in Dahl Class!
This week, children in Dahl Class have had a fantastic time making scones as part of their DT project. They designed their own recipes, choosing from a range of ingredients including orange juice, chocolate chips, cherries, cheese and herbs — thankfully not all in one scone!
The children carefully mixed their ingredients, shaped their scones and popped them into the oven to bake. The results were absolutely amazing, and the classroom smelled delicious too!
A wonderful example of creativity, teamwork and practical skills in action

🌼 What a lovely first week back in Pre-School! 🌼
After the Easter break, the children have settled straight back into our routines and were so excited to play, explore, and spend time with their friends again. We’ve been learning all about Spring, enjoying the warmer weather, and making the most of lots of outdoor play 🌱
This week we’ve been busy in our garden too—planting strawberry plants and spotting the bulbs that have grown and flowered while we were away. The children loved noticing and admiring all the changes around them 🌸
A fantastic start to the term! 😊

What an amazing final week we’ve had! Our RE Day exploring the Sikh faith and Vaisakhi was a huge success—Donaldson and Dahl loved making puppets to retell the story, while Rowling created fantastic leaflets on the 5 Ks. The kite‑making session was brilliant, with so many families joining in. We had 45 superb Easter Egg entries, new outdoor furniture arrived thanks to Snack Trolley funds, and both our Easter service and egg hunt were wonderful highlights. Huge congratulations to Edward for winning the giant egg! Thank you to all our families and FOSS for your amazing support. Happy Easter!

🌟 Exploring Our Village! 🌟
Our Pre-school children have had a wonderful week exploring the village together. They showed fantastic listening skills and brilliant teamwork as they walked down, visited the river, enjoyed a stroll around the green, and crossed the old bridge.
It’s so important that the children get to know and appreciate our beautiful local area — and they loved every moment!
We’re excited to be out and about again next Monday! 💚👣

🎨 Art Week Highlights! 🎨
All our children have been getting creative this week as we explored collage across the school. Each class studied two inspirational artists, including Andy Goldsworthy, Henri Matisse and Gustav Klimt, and produced beautiful collage work inspired by their styles.
This hands‑on week helped pupils build on their existing Art skills while exploring both local and international artistic influences. The final pieces look absolutely amazing — well done, everyone!

🌟 Dahl Class Weekly Round‑Up! 🌟
It has been a hive of activity in Dahl Class this week!
🧁 Scone Taste Testing
We had a delicious time sampling three varieties of scones—fruit, cherry, and cheese—kindly donated by Wayne and Denise Adams from Russel’s Café, Pickering. The children explored taste and texture as part of our work towards planning, designing, and creating our very own cream tea for our project “What Makes the UK Great?”
🧶 PHSE: Building Friendships
In PHSE, we thought about what makes a good friend. Using wool, pupils created a “friendship web” to show how kindness keeps us connected—and how easily those connections can break if we’re unkind. A powerful reminder of the importance of looking after one another.
🎸 Times Tables Rock Stars
A huge well done to our two Rock Legends this week! Year 4 have been working exceptionally hard on their times tables through our TT Rockstars programme. Fantastic determination and effort!
What a wonderful week of learning, teamwork, and creativity—well done, Dahl Class! 👏✨

It’s been a fantastic week of learning and creativity. Our budding guitarists are continuing their lessons with Mr Chatto, and we’re delighted to have three enthusiastic children in Years 3 and 4 who have recently started guitar lessons through NYCC. Well done to all of them for their commitment and progress so far!
In Dahl Class, the children have created some truly stunning Tudor roses in Art. They explored the history and symbolism of the Tudor rose, experimented with different collage materials, and then designed and made their own beautiful Tudor rose collages. The results were amazing — brilliant work, Dahl Class!
