Yesterday, on the 1st April, the parents and children gathered among the cherry blossom trees to celebrate Ostara 🌸🌼🌺

The Mighty Wilds children put on a beautiful performance, with incredible homemade costumes of floral head wreathes, animal ears and golden dresses. The parents were almost moved to tears as the children each spoke their lines, and for many, this was their first outdoor theatre performance.

We all sang 'The Dance of Spring' to celebrate the turning of the wheel from Imbolc to Ostara. 🎵

The Tiny Wilds children then came together to sing another song about Spring time and show off their adorable animal masks as they twirled and moved with the music.

After the celebrations, we all enjoyed a delicious homemade vegetable soup and bread. The children had also baked the most incredible lavender and lemon cookies. We were also treated to the most amazing avocado chooclate cake as it was also one of the children's birthdays. The children played as the grown ups chatted and everyone had a wonderful afternoon filled with love and appreciation for this beautiful land.

After the February half term, we welcomed our new Tiny Wilds Leader and Setting Manager, Sophie to the tribe!

Sophie trained as a primary school teacher specialising in the early years, and later qualified as a Forest School leader and children’s yoga teacher.

Alongside teaching in schools, she has worked as a childminder and led forest and meadow school sessions, helping children learn through play and nature.

Sophie has also spent several years working in research tackling health inequalities and supporting vulnerable families. She is passionate about helping children grow in confidence, develop healthy habits, and build a lasting connection with the natural world.

We're delighted to have Sophie take on our lead role and already the children have bonded with her.

Last week the whole school said goodbye to our beloved Sticky. 🦗

Mr Sticky Stick Insect had been an important part of the children's' school lives over last 18 months. From giving him his first home, to feeding him brambles and fresh leaves, the children have loved watching him grow [or not].

Sticky has been the source of much learning over the last year, including writing projects such as the creation of brochures on "How to Care for your Stick Insect."

At the funeral last week, the children carried Sticky in his home, to a beautiful spot in the nature garden. They built him a coffin, placed him very gently inside and popped him in his final resting place. He was surrounded by beautiful adornments, all his favourite plants, berries and other non living stick types.

We played music, had a dance, wrote our goodbyes and left little notes for sticky. RIP little buddy. You will be missed.

We have been loving the snow lately ❄️

It's such a novelty for the children, who find it so playful and exciting. We've seen all sorts of creations, from snowmen to ice castles and we've even been practising writing our names in the snow!

Apparently there's more snow due next week. Stay cosy and safe everyone!

We still can't believe we had snow last week! ❄️

The excitement and laughter from the children was magical. It was amazing to see how creative and inventive they became in amongst the snow. From making sleds to snowmen and gathering ice as magnifying glasses.

We hope it returns soon but not so much that we get snowed in! ⛄️

Did you make it to school that day?

The annual Tavistock Pudsy Day of Morris took place on Saturday to raise money for Children in Need.

The whole town was jam packed with over 200 Morris dancers from far and wide. They put on their best dancing in their colourful costumes.

Tavistock is only an 8 minute drive from Tiny Wilds, and is our nearest town. We're lucky to have some fantastic annual events here, especially in the Autumn and Winter season. From Goose Fair back in October through to the to the Dickensian evening in December and all the late Christmas Markets, there's plenty to do all year round.

Not only is Tavistock a Fair Trade town, it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll just have to move here to find out why ;)
