🚀🌎 SPACE WEEK AT NURSERY! 🌟🪐

We’ve had an out-of-this-world time celebrating Space Week across all our rooms! 👩‍🚀✨ Our little explorers have been busy getting creative, investigating new textures and developing their skills through lots of exciting space-themed activities. 💫

🌟 Under Twos – Our youngest explorers have been developing their fine motor skills while painting stars, getting hands-on with moon dough and singing along to Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star ⭐🎶

🪐 Jungle Cubs – We’ve been getting creative painting colourful planets and exploring our space-themed water tray, encouraging curiosity and sensory exploration! 🌍💧

👽 Busy Bees – Our older explorers have been making their very own space hats, getting creative with alien play dough and working together to build amazing rocket ships ready for take-off! 🚀🎨

It’s been wonderful seeing everyone’s curiosity, imagination and creativity shine as we explored the wonders of space together! 🌙✨

♻️🌍 Recycling Week at Nursery! 🌍♻️

What a fantastic week we’ve had learning all about recycling, reusing and looking after our planet! 💚

The children have been busy exploring different materials and learning about what we can recycle and reuse. We got creative with junk modelling, turning everyday recyclable items into wonderful creations and giving them a new lease of life! 📦🎨

We’ve also been developing our independence by taking our own recycling out and learning how small actions can make a big difference. ♻️👏

To finish our week, we took our litter pickers down to the beach and got involved in a beach clean-up! 🏖️🗑️ The children were fantastic at spotting litter and helping to keep our local environment clean and safe for people and wildlife. 🐚🦀🌊

We wanted to share details of a lovely local children’s group that some of our children already attend and enjoy, FUSE Theatre Arts Collective, a local performing arts school offering fun, creative classes for children under 7, based at Durrington High School.

Their classes are run by subject-qualified, DBS-checked staff who are trained in Safeguarding and First Aid.

They were also recently awarded Best Children’s Business in Sussex at the Muddy Stilettos Awards. If you’re looking for a new activity for your little one, please take a look at the attached poster for more information.

Motor Skills Matter 🧠💪

When we talk about motor skills, it’s so much more than being able to hold a pencil!

From the very earliest years, children are developing the strength, coordination, balance and control they need to navigate the world around them.

🌿 Gross motor skills support children to run, jump, climb, balance, crawl and move with confidence. They also give children opportunities to take appropriate risks, test their bodies, develop spatial awareness and build coordination. Learning to climb a little higher, balance on a beam or negotiate uneven ground helps children understand what their bodies can do — and builds confidence along the way.

✋ Fine motor skills begin long before handwriting. Strong hands and fingers are developed through everyday play and exploration: squeezing and rolling playdough, threading, building, picking up and manipulating small objects, using tweezers, scissors and other tools, and exploring different textures and materials.

These early experiences strengthen the muscles in the hands, develop hand-eye coordination and build the control children will eventually need for writing, dressing, feeding themselves and many other everyday tasks.

🎨🌈 Being creative with paints and colours is about so much more than paintbrushes and paper!

Our children learn best through using their whole bodies and all of their senses, and we've been having lots of fun exploring colour and creativity in different ways. Recently we've been:
✨ Using hammers to break up chalk and create our own chalk paint.
✨ Mixing paint with shaving foam to explore new colours and exciting textures.
✨ Using watercolours and pipettes to develop fine motor skills while experimenting with colour.
✨ Painting on a variety of materials and using different canvases.
✨ Exploring painting while sitting on chairs, standing, and sitting on the floor to encourage different ways of creating.

Every experience gives children the opportunity to investigate, experiment, make choices, and express themselves creatively 💛🎨

There’s something wonderful about seeing children completely immersed in what they’re doing💚

When children have access to a calm, nurturing environment with carefully planned activities, they feel confident to explore, concentrate, and follow their own ideas. These moments of focused play are where so much learning takes place; building independence, resilience, problem-solving skills, and confidence, all while having fun.

⚽️ Football Fun at Little Rascals! ⚽️

With so many of our children showing an interest in the excitement of the World Cup, we were delighted to welcome Leo from The Football Fun Factory for a fantastic football session this morning.

The children had a wonderful time practising their football skills, learning to work together as a team, and, most importantly, having lots of fun! It was lovely to see their confidence grow as they joined in with such enthusiasm.
