Feature | Fiddlers Three – from concept to recording | Continuo Connect Martin Perkins, co-director of the Musical & Amicable Society, traces the development of the ensemble’s latest recording, ‘Fiddlers Three’, exploring the research, repertoire and performance decisions behind the project, supported by Continuo Foundation.

We are seeking to appoint 2 Associate Soprano lay clerks to join two existing holders of the role from September 2026.

The Associate Soprano lay clerk roles were created in September 2025, made possible through financial support from the Cathedral Music Trust. These new posts provided the first regular opportunity for adult sopranos to contribute to the worshipping life of the Cathedral as members of the Cathedral Choir.

The one regular weekly commitment for Associate Soprano lay clerks is Evensong on Saturdays at 5.30pm, with a rehearsal from 4.30pm. However, there will also be times when the music department’s schedule is such that this will be swapped for a Sunday Eucharist or Evensong, for example. It is hoped associate soprano lay clerks will contribute to the singing of services at key points in the year including Christmas and Holy Week.

Associate Soprano Lay Clerks will be appointed and paid as external freelance contractors.

It is anticipated that there will be a maximum of 40 services on offer to Associate Soprano Lay Clerks over the coming academic year (2026 – 2027).

The Winchcombe Music Festival will take place from 29-31 May. Hosted by St Peter's Church, it features a wide variety of music.
