The greatest challenge with self-protection is simple:
Most people don’t think about it until it’s too late, until a crisis hits, and they’re caught unprepared.
We often assume we live in safe environments, work with decent people, and surround ourselves with trustworthy friends.
It’s easy to believe, “That sort of thing would never happen to me.”
But the truth is, bad things do happen, every day, even here in the UK, to good people who never thought they’d be a target.
What’s even more alarming is that the majority of violence doesn’t come from strangers in dark alleys…..it often comes from those we know: trusted partners, family members, or friends.
This makes it even harder to see the warning signs and even more vital to be aware, prepared, and empowered.
Whether it’s an act of violence, an unexpected threat, or a life-changing event, danger can appear when you least expect it. The key is to prepare before adversity strikes.
By recognising the importance of self-protection now, you give yourself, your team, or your loved ones the skills, knowledge, and confidence to handle challenging situations effectively.
Don’t wait for the unthinkable to happen. Your safety is YOUR responsibility. You can’t rely on anyone else.
Take action, stay ready, and stay safer.

‘Tis the Season for Christmas Parties……😬🎄🎉
It’s that time of year when we swap work emails for mince pies, bad dance moves, and questionable karaoke. But while you’re jingling all the way, it’s worth keeping safety in mind too.
Trust your gut: If a colleague’s behavior feels off, trust your instincts. Let someone know, keep your distance, and avoid being alone in awkward situations. (Not every “Secret Santa” gift is a good surprise!)
Buddy up: Bring a trusted colleague along as your party sidekick. Think of them as your festive wingman – here for backup, bad jokes, and to stop you texting everyone!
Pace yourself: No one’s asking you to toast the season with tap water, but maybe skip the fifth shot of tequila . Keeping it classy with your drinks could save you from a morning after regret ….or worse, a career-ending conga line incident.
Oversharing alert: Holiday spirit doesn’t mean spilling your life story to someone you just met by the bar. Be wary of giving information to people that they may use against you.
The holidays are about spreading cheer—not chaos.
So, let’s celebrate responsibly, look out for each other, and make it a season to remember (for all the right reasons).
Stay safe and have a cracker of a time!

Are YOU able to communicate effectively?
Effective conflict communication can prevent almost all instances of social violence, which often escalate due to misunderstandings, wounded pride, or unchecked egos.
By setting aside your ego and focusing on de-escalation, you create space for resolution instead of confrontation.
The key is to keep a safe distance (arms length) remain calm, listen actively, and communicate with empathy and respect.
A simple question like “How can I help you?” can be incredibly powerful. It shifts the dynamic from adversarial to cooperative, signaling that you are not a threat but someone willing to assist.
This approach not only helps to lower the other person’s defences but also demonstrates emotional intelligence and control traits that can steer potentially volatile situations toward peaceful outcomes.
Hope this helps 🙏

A Reflection on Personal Safety……
In an ideal world, freedom and safety would be universal rights. But let’s face it—reality often has other plans. Staying safe isn’t about paranoia; it’s about being prepared and proactive.
As someone who’s trained to perhaps handle tricky situations, I know the importance of staying sharp—especially when it comes to protecting my loved ones. Sure, we all deserve to stroll through life worry-free, but a little vigilance can make a world of difference.
Take my wife, sister, or mother, for example. I always encourage them to walk with confidence and caution. No shortcuts through sketchy alleys. No blasting Spotify so loud you can’t hear your own thoughts. And definitely no “just one more drink” that turns into three too many. Even as a trained guy, I don’t roll the dice on unnecessary risks.
And let’s clear something up: those TikTok self-defence tricks? Forget them. No amount of dramatic “ninja moves” will magically protect you. Acknowledging our vulnerabilities isn’t defeatist—it’s smart. The reality is that if you’re caught off guard, getting out unscathed is no walk in the park.
The key isn’t fear; it’s awareness. It’s about accepting that bad things can happen and making choices to minimize risks—for yourself and those you love.
So here’s some food for thought as we navigate the streets together: let’s swap naivety for common sense, complacency for awareness, and reckless shortcuts for a little extra care. Because being safe isn’t just smart—it’s empowering.

‼️Self-Defence Myths You Need to Stop Believing‼️
“I’ll be fine……I always carry my keys in my hand. I’d just hit them with that! Or……you know, kick them in the balls.”
These are common self-defence assumptions, but they’re rooted in dangerous myths.
Reality tells a different story.
In a high-stress situation, adrenaline and fear can cause even the best-laid plans to fail.
You might miss your target, freeze entirely, or find that your “weapon” is out of reach—digging through your bag for a key during an attack isn’t exactly practical.
And let’s be real: kicking an attacker is no easy feat, especially on uneven terrain or icy ground.
What if your attack has no effect?
Most assaults are sudden, often from behind, leaving little time to react. Shockingly, many attacks are carried out by someone the victim knows, making simple “fight back” techniques less effective.
The key to real self-protection isn’t relying on Hollywood-style moves. It’s about awareness, preparation, and prevention:
Stay present and alert to your surroundings
• Be mindful of the people near you ✅
• Learn to recognize red flags ✅
• Have a plan for the worst-case scenario✅
Self-protection isn’t about gimmicks; it’s about empowerment through practical, proven strategies.
Stay safe and stay smart 🙏

Preparation is key……
It’s not about living in fear but about empowering ourselves to face challenges head-on.
By planning for the worst, we create a sense of control and resilience, ensuring we’re ready for anything life throws our way.
Let’s stay calm, stay ready, and never be overwhelmed. ”

Self-defence isn’t about flashy martial arts moves or mastering a specific system. It’s about survival, pure and simple.
It’s about making sure you get home safe to your loved ones, avoiding a trip to the hospital, staying out of jail, and even potentially saving your life or the life of a loved one.
At Prepared People we understand the importance of effective self-protection principles , tailored to real-life situations.
You will forget techniques but principles will stay with you!
Because when it comes down to it, your safety and well-being are what matter most.
Don’t wait until it’s too late…
We should all invest in our safety!

In the realm of self-protection, it’s crucial to acknowledge that we can’t always match our attacker’s size, strength, or speed.
We operate under the assumption of a worst-case scenario, where brute force is not our ally.
However, what we do possess is the advantage of surprise and being proactive.
It’s about seizing the initiative and striking first, but only as a last resort when de-escalation has failed and escape is fruitless.
In the dynamic of confrontation, action invariably triumphs over reaction.
By embracing this mindset, we empower ourselves to tilt the odds in our favor and enhance our safety.
Remember, in the face of uncertainty, staying vigilant and taking preemptive action can be our greatest assets.
Stay safe out there, everyone! 🙏

As coaches, our true measure of success lies not in what WE can do, but in empowering our students when it truly matters!
We can’t exactly show up like superheroes when they’re in trouble , can we?
With just a handful of hours, we have the daunting task of equipping them with strategies to navigate the chaos and stay safe from harm.
Say goodbye to fancy techniques that only work in a controlled environment! 🙅♂️
Because let’s face it, defending against a wrist grab won’t cut it when faced with a real-life threat. 🤷♀️
Sure, I might incorporate an elbow, but I doubt my dear mom with her limited mobility would find that as handy! 😬
Let’s pledge to focus on what truly works – timeless principles over techniques, functionality over flamboyance, and reflex over reactivity! 🎯
So, here’s to coaching the smart way – no capes required!

Protect yourself and your loved ones with kindness and compassion this Easter season and beyond.
Understand that the first rule of de-escalation is to be nice.
In the face of potential conflict, a calm demeanor and respectful attitude can often defuse tense situations before they escalate.
Whether it’s a verbal disagreement or a potentially volatile encounter, approaching others with empathy and understanding can make all the difference.
Social violence is not inevitable; it can be de-escalated and avoided through letting go of your ego and not being afraid to apologise.
As you celebrate Easter with your family and friends, remember to carry these principles with you.
Stay vigilant, but also remember the power of a smile and a kind word.
Let’s make our communities safer and more harmonious by choosing compassion over confrontation.
From all of us at Prepared People we wish you a happy and peaceful Easter 🙏
