Kimichi Worcester is a small mainstream secondary on Battenhall Avenue, for 11 to 16 year olds. Music is our mainstay, but you don't need to be the next Yuja or Lang Lang to come here. There are no detentions and no isolation room.

You'll see the classrooms and the music room and have as long as you like to ask questions. No booking, no queues...

And if a busy open morning is the very thing your child couldn't face, email us and we'll find a quiet hour that suits them instead.

Fees £3,600 a term, including weekly one-to-one music tuition and exam entry; bursaries available on a case-by-case basis.

If your child is dreading next week, this post is for you.

Kimichi Worcester is now open on Battenhall Avenue for students aged 11 to 16, with everything that has made Birmingham what it is: a fully academic mainstream school with classes of no more than ten, every student learning an instrument with specialist tuition included, and a school small enough that every young person is genuinely known.

For a lot of our young people, Kimichi is the school that finally worked after others hadn't. If that sounds familiar, please get in touch. Come and see it for yourself, and bring your child. We'd love to meet you both.

CONGRATULATIONS GCSE CLASS OF ‘26

We’re incredibly proud of our students and all of the hard work they put into making this exam series such a success for them.

As a music specialist school, we’re delighted with a 100% pass rate across GCSE and BTEC Level 3 courses.

More than a third of all grades awarded were grade 7 or above against a national average of around one in five across all schools; over a fifth were a grade 8 or 9.

Our pupils are admitted without reference to academic ability, and many join us after their education has been disrupted elsewhere. Results of this kind, from a genuinely non-selective intake, reflect what small classes and specialist teaching can do.

Last night at around 10pm our security scared a group of teenagers off who were poking around with torches looking for a way into the building. We have footage.

Please…if you’re not sure where your teen was at this time of night, have a word…

We’re trying to add value to our community, not invite undesirables in.

We're looking for a full-time Science Teacher — Kimichi School Worcester

We need someone who can teach science well. But more than that, we need someone who is kind. Our pupils are bright, curious young people, many of whom have found mainstream school a difficult place to be. What changes things for them isn't a perfect scheme of work — it's an adult who is patient, consistent and genuinely interested in them.

So: qualified teacher status is welcome but not essential. If you're a recent graduate with a science degree who hasn't found the right role yet, or someone thinking about moving into teaching, we'd like to hear from you. We'll support you properly.

What we do ask for is empathy, curiosity, and the willingness to work restoratively — no detentions, no isolation, just relationships and high expectations.

Last day of term at Kimichi Worcester; and yes, that's our kitchen in full swing.

Cooking isn't an afterthought here. It's life skills, it's independence, it's sitting down and eating together. It's also the sort of learning that reaches a young person who has stopped believing school is for them.

That's the whole idea of this place.

Kimichi Worcester is a small independent school for ages 11–16, built around music, restorative practice and actually knowing every single child. Small classes. No detentions. No isolation rooms. Some of our young people have EHCPs, and some of them arrive after somewhere else hasn't worked: anxiety, school refusal, exclusion, a system that ran out of patience.

We don't run out of patience.

We opened in January 2026 and we have places for September 2026, and we can take children mid-year too.

If you're reading this thinking ‘it's too late, we've missed the boat, we'll just have to get through another year’ please don't. It isn't too late. Not for September, and not for October, or January either. We take admissions all year round, because children don't stop needing school at convenient moments, especially if Year 7 isn’t *quite* what you thought it’d be…
