😊🎨 All About Me – Facial Features & Feelings! 🎨😊

Today we focused on our facial features and emotions. The children took turns creating their own faces using our felt face, choosing where to place the different features and telling Anne-Marie how they were feeling β€” including happy and sad. πŸ₯°

We then took our learning even further and became artists! 🎨 Using mirrors, the children looked closely at themselves and identified their eyes, hair, nose, mouth and other facial features, including noticing their own eye and hair colours.

It was so lovely to see how each child saw themselves and represented their own unique features through art. ❀️ Every picture was different and completely their own!

🌟 EYFS learning included:
❀️ PSED – recognising and expressing emotions, developing self-awareness and positive self-identity.
πŸ—£οΈ Communication & Language – naming features, describing themselves and expressing feelings.
πŸ‘€ Understanding the World – noticing similarities and differences between ourselves.
🎨 Expressive Arts & Design – using art to represent themselves and express ideas.
βœ‹ Physical Development – developing fine motor control through painting and creating.

Celebrating who we are, how we feel and what makes each of us unique! πŸ₯°πŸŒˆ

πŸ“šπŸ… WE DID IT! We completed the Greenwich Library Summer Reading Challenge! πŸŽ‰

The children read 6 books to complete the challenge and were so excited to receive their medals and certificates! πŸ₯°πŸ… And of course, Anne-Marie framed the certificates because… why not frame your achievements?! ❀️✨

Throughout the summer, we enjoyed lots of different books together β€” talking about the pictures, pointing out things we could see, learning new words and even sharing our own ideas about what might happen next. πŸ“–πŸ’

It was lovely to see the children’s confidence and enjoyment of books grow throughout the summer, while developing those important early literacy skills.

🌟 EYFS learning included:
πŸ“š Literacy – developing a love of books, stories and reading.
πŸ—£οΈ Communication & Language – learning vocabulary, listening and sharing ideas.
🧠 Understanding – predicting what might happen next and recalling parts of stories.
❀️ PSED – building confidence, perseverance and pride in our achievements.

A HUGE well done to our little readers! πŸ₯ΉπŸ“šβ€οΈ

And a big thank you to Royal Greenwich Libraries for another fantastic Summer Reading Challenge! We’ve loved taking part! πŸ₯°

πŸ›οΈβœ¨ Throwback to our visit to the British Museum this summer! βœ¨πŸ›οΈ

What an amazing day we had! We learnt SO much exploring the museum, and having our friends from another setting with us made the experience even more special. πŸ₯°

We explored Ancient Egypt, discovered fascinating artefacts, followed the Smurf trail and listened to stories about the objects we found. πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬πŸΊ The children loved making observations, asking questions and sharing what they thought.

We even met the Caryatid from Athens πŸ₯ΊπŸ›οΈ and learnt that she is sadly away from her five sisters, leading to lovely conversations about families, relationships and feelings.

🌟 EYFS learning included:
πŸ—£οΈ Communication & Language – listening, questioning and developing vocabulary.
🌍 Understanding the World – exploring history, cultures and communities.
❀️ PSED – developing empathy, confidence and social skills.
πŸ“š Literacy – engaging with written information, symbols and stories.
🎭 Expressive Arts & Design – exploring creativity, patterns and cultural artefacts.
🚢 Physical Development – walking, navigating spaces and developing independence.

A brilliant example of learning through real-life experiences, curiosity and exploration! 🌍✨

πŸ”’πŸŽ¨ Numbers, Colours & Mark Making! ✏️✨

We LOVE colouring, drawing and mark making at ANMA, and recently the children have been showing a growing interest in numbers β€” so we decided to bring the two together! πŸ₯°

Using our puzzle-piece numbers, the children matched each number to the corresponding number on their colouring sheet. We talked about which numbers we could see, which ones we could match and even discussed which colour we wanted to use for each number. πŸŽ¨πŸ”’

One of our little ones currently has a favourite number β€” 4! πŸ’• So naturally, we spent some extra time looking at what the number 4 looks like and practising recognising it.

We then took our learning a step further and talked about how old we all are, with the children finding and pointing to the number that matched their age. πŸ‘†πŸ”’

It’s lovely when we can follow the children’s interests and turn them into meaningful learning opportunities β€” because sometimes the best learning starts with something as simple as β€œI like that number!” πŸ₯°

🌟 Skills & development supported:
πŸ”’ Number recognition & early numeracy
🎨 Colour recognition & decision making
✏️ Mark making & early writing skills
πŸ‘€ Visual discrimination & matching
🧠 Concentration & problem-solving
πŸ—£οΈ Communication & language
πŸ‘† Hand-eye coordination & fine motor skills
🌱 Confidence, independence & following interests

πŸŒ™ SAFE SLEEP AT ANMA Home Nursery🀍

Sleep is such an important part of a child’s wellbeing, development and day-to-day happiness, which is why creating a safe and restful sleep environment is something we take very seriously at ANMA Home Nursery.

From September 2026, updated Department for Education safer-sleep requirements come into effect for early years settings. While some of these requirements are new, we’re proud to say that safe sleep has always been part of our practice since the day we opened. πŸ’€

At ANMA Home Nursery, we:

πŸ›οΈ Follow safer-sleep positioning and use appropriate individual sleep spaces

🀍 Keep sleep areas clear and free from unnecessary items

🌑️ Consider temperature and children’s individual needs

πŸ‘€ Closely supervise children while they sleep

πŸ“Ή Use a camera monitor when children are sleeping in an adjoining room

⏰ Physically check every sleeping child at least every 10 minutes

🧼 Sleep children head-to-toe with their own clean blanket and sheet, helping to reduce the risk of cross-contamination between children

We know that handing your child over to someone else for their sleep can feel like a big thing for parents β€” particularly with babies and younger children.

That’s why safeguarding, supervision and safe sleep are never an afterthought at ANMA Home Nursery. They are part of our everyday practice. 🀍

Safe environments. Strong practice. Happy children. πŸŒ™

🧸✨ Museum of Childhood – V&A ✨🧸

WOW… what a day! πŸ₯° We had SO much fun exploring the Museum of Childhood and discovering toys from different generations.

We talked about how everyone’s childhood can look very different and how toys, games and the way children play have changed over the years. 🌍🧸 It was lovely watching the children recognise toys they still play with at home, as well as discovering new toys they’d love to have a go with!

There was so much for us to get involved with β€” from having little parties inside a doll’s house πŸ πŸŽ‰, to experimenting with shadow puppets and creating and telling our own stories. πŸ‘‹βœ¨πŸ“–

And of course… Anne-Marie had a little moment when she spotted things from her own childhood and thought, β€œI’m not THAT old!” πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚

Thankfully, she soon realised the exhibition was simply showing how much things have changed over the generations… not a personal attack on millennials! πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ

🌟 Learning & development opportunities:
🧸 Understanding the world – exploring how childhood, toys and play have changed across generations.
πŸ—£οΈ Communication & language – sharing ideas, describing toys and talking about experiences.
🎭 Imagination & creativity – creating stories and using shadow puppets to act them out.
🏠 Role play – developing imaginative and social play through the doll’s house.
πŸ‘€ Observation & attention – noticing similarities and differences between toys.
🧠 Critical thinking – comparing past and present and asking questions about why things have changed.
🀝 Social development – playing together, sharing ideas and taking turns.
βœ‹ Fine motor skills – handling, manipulating and exploring different toys and objects.

And because we simply couldn’t leave without one… we finished our adventure with a little souvenir to remember our day! πŸ₯°πŸ§Έ

Another day of learning through experiences, play and curiosity at ANMA! ❀️

πŸ–οΈβ˜€οΈ Beach Day! πŸ¦€πŸŒŠ

What an absolutely AMAZING day we had! πŸ₯° The sunshine was shining, we had a lovely breeze to keep us cool, plenty of food and drink, and most importantly… lots and lots of fun! πŸ’›

From building sandcastles and burying Anne-Marie’s feet in the sand πŸ˜‚πŸ–οΈ, to splashing in the sea, flying kites and discovering tiny baby crabs πŸ¦€ β€” it really was an adventure from start to finish!

But of course, at ANMA, even our adventures are full of learning! 🌱✨

The children explored early maths by recognising numbers on the stacking cups we used in the sand, and we experimented with wet and dry sand to see which would hold its shape best when making our castles. 🏰

We also talked about staying safe at the beach β€” staying together, listening to instructions and only going into the water with an adult. 🌊❀️

Finding our little crab friends created lots of opportunities for communication and learning too! πŸ¦€ We talked about what crabs eat, why this one was so tiny and how they grow much bigger as they get older. We also practised being gentle and respectful towards wildlife β€” using our eyes to look, not our fingers to touch! πŸ‘€

🌟 Skills & development supported:
πŸ–οΈ Understanding the world & nature
πŸ”’ Early maths & number recognition
πŸ—£οΈ Communication & language
🧠 Problem-solving & critical thinking

πŸ’ͺ Confidence, independence & resilience

I’m honestly so glad I was able to experience this with my little ones this year. πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ These are the days that create big memories from little moments.

And after such a busy day… every single one fell asleep on the drive home! πŸ˜‚πŸ₯° Safe to say they had fun!

Of course, nobody could leave without a little beach souvenir β€” one special shell each to take home. πŸšπŸ’•

🌳⚽ Fun at Maryon Park! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’¨

What better way to start the morning than getting outside, getting active and having lots of fun together! β˜€οΈπŸ’š

We took a whole collection of equipment with us today β€” footballs, skipping ropes, egg and spoon, cones, beanbags and frisbees β€” giving the children lots of different ways to move, play and challenge themselves. πŸ₯šπŸ₯„βš½οΈπŸ₯

There were plenty of opportunities to develop our gross motor skills, coordination, balance, spatial awareness and physical confidence, while also practising important social skills such as turn taking, sharing and playing cooperatively. 🀝

And our little ones absolutely SMASHED learning a new skill today β€” skipping! πŸ₯ΉπŸ‘ They really gave it their all, practising again and again and cheering each other on. It was lovely to see their determination, perseverance and growing confidence! πŸ’ͺ✨

πŸŒ‘βœ¨ Exploring Solar Eclipses!βœ¨πŸŒ‘

Today’s tuff tray was all about space, curiosity and discovery! πŸš€πŸŒŒ

We explored what a solar eclipse is, how it happens and why the Moon can appear to cover the Sun. πŸŒžπŸŒ‘ The children then used paintbrushes to carefully brush away the black rice to reveal the hidden space stickers underneath. πŸ”βœ¨

This simple activity created so many opportunities for communication and language β€” naming what they could see, talking about space, making observations and asking questions.

Brushing through the rice also supported their fine motor development, strengthening those little hand and finger muscles and developing control β€” all important foundations for later skills such as holding a pencil and writing their names. βœοΈπŸ’•

And the highlight… solar eclipse glasses! πŸ˜πŸ•ΆοΈ The children were fascinated to look through them and see what they could discover. Their excitement and curiosity made this such a memorable learning experience!

🌸🌍 Summer adventures at ANMA Home Nursery & Club! 🌍🌸

During the summer holidays, we headed out to Greenwich Flower Gardens and the museum for a day full of exploring, discovering and learning through real-life experiences. πŸŒΊπŸ¦‹

We explored the beautiful flowers, talked about colours and spotted butterflies along the way. πŸ¦‹πŸŒΌ Our older children also enjoyed carefully climbing trees, giving them the opportunity to experience risky play in a supported environment β€” building confidence, judgement and an understanding of their own abilities. 🌳

And of course… we couldn’t resist making LOTS of bubbles! 🫧

We then walked down to the museum where the learning continued. The children discovered more about the world around them and where we are on the map of Earth, while getting completely hands-on with the exhibits. 🌍

From directing boats and exploring cannons, to using the ship simulator and working together to move luggage from the ship to the dock β€” there was so much to investigate, imagine and learn through play. πŸš’βš“

We finished our adventure in the park, climbing, exploring and enjoying even more opportunities for physical play. πŸŒ³πŸ’š
