*Brand New Award Club* 🔬

We’re thrilled to launch our *NEW* Adventurers: CREST Super Star STEM Award - starting Tuesday 15th September.

Designed especially for ages 8-15, this exciting 10-week course is all about nature-themed experiments, STEM challenges, investigating the world around us, creative projects, discoveries into the science hidden in nature, and most importantly… having fun in the outdoors. At the end of the 10 weeks, children will receive a certificate for completing the award.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Wild Art Family Funday yesterday! 🎨🫐

We had lots of fun:
🎨 Experimenting with different natural pigments such as sand, charcoal and mud
🫟 Collecting and mashing blackberries to make paint and watching as it changes colour
🖌️ Making our own paintbrushes out of sticks and leaves, ferns and grass
🪵 Making log and bark prints
☀️ Making sun prints with cyanotope
📸 Taking photos and printing them to make colouring sheets
🐓 Playing with the chickens. The chickens had LOTS of hugs!🤣

Autumn Term at Skogsmulle Early Years 🧚🏻‍♂️🍁🍂

We are an inclusive Forest school Home Education Group for ages 2-7. Children are able to explore nature in depth and learn at their own pace in a safe and nurturing environment.

Learners can play, explore, make new friends as a family. We will have a range of activities on offer that will be displayed around our woodland to start at any time. Everything we do is the children’s choice and at the children’s pace.

Due to the time of day this will mostly appeal to Home Educated children, however, children in part time nursery, flexischooled children and children who haven’t yet started nursery are more than welcome.

Everyone can join in the fun at Forest School!

Despite having to adapt the session because of the heat, the Green Champions from Hirwaun Ymca had the absolute best time today doing their John Muir Award! ☀️

🪵 We made walking sticks by whittling willow and hazel with safety knives, drilling a hole, tying the string and sanding them down to make them nice and smooth to hold.

✏️ We then decorated them using both paint pens to colour on them and we used a pyrography pen to engrave our names and other designs to personalise them. There were some incredibly creative designs and they were all beautiful!

📖 After lunch we added to our learning journal floorbook and wrote about what we did the previous week and looked through the photos of what we had done. We also had discussions such as we can prevent wildfires as there were wildfires last night where we had our walk the previous week, how being in nature makes us feel and how we can look after wild spaces so that children of the future can play there too.

🦇 To keep our bodies moving we played a game called bat and moth to learn how bats use echolocation to locate their prey. The bats were blindfolded and had to locate and tag the moths by calling out to them and using the sound of the moths’ response to catch them.

🍂 We then increased the challenge of last weeks leaf ID game by trying the game blindfolded. This meant that we had to use our other senses to work out what leaves we were holding such as using shape, texture and size. They absolutely smashed it and even tried the challenge to guess them all and time themselves.

We can’t wait for our final adventure and wood-fired pizza party! ⛰️🍕

Something exciting is coming to our Wildlings Home Education Group this Autumn!

We’ll be running the CREST Star STEM Award, giving children the chance to work towards a nationally recognized STEM award while exploring, experimenting and learning in nature. Children will complete a series of activities, documenting their discoveries in their own journals, and after completing at least six activities they can earn their CREST Star award!

We’ll be undertaking:
🧪 Nature-themed experiments
🔎 STEM challenges
🌱 Investigations into the world around us
🌿 Creative projects
💡 Idea testing
🔬 Discoveries into the science hidden in nature
📝 Learning evidence journal creation
… And time to play and explore at Forest School!

🚫Today’s Photo Club Postponed due to heat🚫
