Over the past couple of weeks we have been busy exploring the wonderful colours of the Autumn through a range of crafts.

πŸ‚The Kiddiwinks used fine motor skills to stick tiny pieces of different materials to large leaf outlines to help create our gorgeous window display.

🍁 We used different shades of reds, yellows, oranges and browns to colour in our own scarecrows , following our visit to Albrighton Scarecrow Festival.

πŸ‚ Finally, we used a range of sponges and stampers to create a whirlwind of leaves before dabbing crunchy broccoli florets into paint to make our own beautiful Autumn trees

A lovely walk around West Park earlier this week, looking for Autumn treasures πŸ‚πŸ Really couldn't believe how many squirrels there were too (or how close they got to us!) 🐿

πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Ahoy there! What an amazing week we had last week, following on from International Talk Like a Pirate Day and inspired by our visit to the pirate ship in Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gardens, Bewdley πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ

πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ Walking the Plank: We practiced our balancing skills, making sure no one fell into the "shark-infested" waters!

πŸ’Ž Sorting Pirate Treasure: We sorted shiny gold coins, gems, and jewels in different ways

βš”οΈ Role Play and Dressing Up: We put on our finest pirate hats, eye patches, and outfits to sail the high seas and hunt for buried treasure.

πŸƒ Playing Snap & Matching Games: We used special pirate-themed cards to test our memory, match up pairs, and practice taking turns.

πŸ” Making Our Own Telescopes: We painted and decorated our very own telescopes to look out for land.

🏝️ Designing Treasure Islands: We used colourful stickers and to map out our very own secret islands where "X marks the spot"
πŸ“š Pirate Book Explorers: We shared lots of exciting pirate-themed books, before using the pictures to help us retell the story ourselves . Ten Little Pirates was our favourite!

🎡 Singing Sea Shanties: We sang catchy pirate songs including our playgroup favourite "You arrrr the treasure" and new songs like "When I was one" and "I'm a pirate"

"Ahoy there me hearties" πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈβ˜ οΈπŸ¦œWe couldn't have our pirate themed week without visiting Queen Elizabeth II's Jubilee ga...

We couldn't have our pirate themed week without visiting Queen Elizabeth II's Jubilee garden in Bewdley! We took our role play outdoors to it's magnificent wooden pirate ship and had lots of fun πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ

On Friday, we ended our week with a visit to the farm! 🚜 We loved seeing all the different animals and tasting the delicious ice cream too. 🍦

There was such a lot of language development during the morning:

- Using descriptive words like "fluffy," "noisy," and "huge!" πŸ‘
- Mimicking the sounds of the cows, horses, goats, sheep, and chickens πŸ„πŸ“
- Discussing all the new sights, smells, and textures around the farm. 🚜🌾

Alongside our 'All about Me' themed activities, the Kiddiwinks have enjoyed lots of child-led play. I always find it fascinating watching and listening to them as they play πŸ’•

Child-led play is sooooo important for our children for lots of reasons...

🧠 Building Brain Connections: When children choose their own activities, they are practicing deep thinking, problem-solving, and cognitive flexibility.

πŸ’ͺ Developing Independence: In a world where we as adults make most of the rules, child-led play gives them a sense of control and helps them grow into confident decision-makers too.

πŸ’ Nurturing Creativity: Whether they are building a 'tower', making a 'cup of tea', or being a 'princess', their imagination is developing.

πŸ‘¬ Boosting Social Skills: Exploring alongside other children teaches them how to communicate ideas, take turns, negotiate, and share naturally.

Over the past couple of weeks, as part of our theme 'All about Me, the Kiddiwinks have been been busy doing lots of fantastic things::

🎨 Creative Portraits: We’ve been using loose parts and mark-making equipment to create some absolutely beautiful self-portraits.

🧠 My Body: We have been talking about our body parts, learning where they are in relation to each other, and singing some old favourites like Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes and Tommy Thumb!

πŸ”€ Special Letters: We’ve also started exploring the letters that are important to us and our Kiddiwink friends through collage and loose parts.

πŸ₯¦ Likes & Dislikes: We spent time chatting about our favourite things and discovered that not everybody likes the same thingsβ€”and that’s what makes us all so special and unique!
