This weekend was incredibly special as I celebrated my eldest daughter’s 18th birthday—a big milestone for her and for me as a parent.

Why I Do What I Do?

When I first started my teaching career, I had the privilege of working with an incredible school leader who shaped how I approach education. She once asked me why I seemed to connect so well with our more "challenging" students. I didn’t know how to answer at the time, but her response stuck with me:

"Sarah, you get to know our children. You care, and they know that you do. You have an ability to get under their skin and help them to see the very best of themselves. Never lose that."

Those words became the foundation of my approach, and I’d like to think I’ve held onto that quality. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to see the lasting impact of this way of working:

⭐️ A student I encouraged to pursue her passion for writing, who later gained a place at Cambridge to study English.

⭐️ An adult learner, now a youth worker, who told me he learned the importance of empathy and kindness in my classroom.

⭐️ A year 6 student who shared that I made her smile every day, even through the tough times.
