We agree. What technology helps your children?

I do remember when we first tried a reading pen - it sounded a little like a cranky alien but it did help with homework and decoding some tricky multi syllable words in a sea of dense text. C-pens are a well known brand (with one which is exam compliant) but we just tried a cheap one from an online market place and it did the job perfectly well.

We also use Immersive Reader a lot and I teach this too to my learners. It is fantastic for editing and uplevelling of sentences. Have you tried it?

Meet the Presenter – Robert Jennings

Rob Jennings is co-founder of The Dyscalculia Network and has over 15 years’ experience teaching young people with special educational needs. A recognised specialist in dyscalculia and maths difficulties, Rob serves on the CRESTED Council and is co-author of The Maths Difficulties and Dyscalculia Assessment (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2025).

Rob has delivered training and presentations to schools, colleges and universities throughout the UK and internationally, helping educators develop effective approaches to supporting learners with mathematical difficulties.

One week until the start of the Summer Reading Challenge! This year's theme is Read to the Beat. We are celebrating the connection between storytelling and sound. 🥁

This year, a child can make the challenge their own and select from 12 set goals. For every book read or goal achieved, they will get a sticker. Once they have read six books or achieved six goals, they will have finished the Challenge.

I have recently been directing a few parents to take a look at Surrey’s Local Offer so this is a particularly well timed post by SCC.

It provides really helpful info and is definitely worth a read if you are going in to talk to your child’s school to discuss the provision of additional learning support.
