Do you have a child starting nursery in September?

One of the hardest parts of that first day is often the bit after you leave.

You walk out of the door, get back to the car, and immediately start wondering:

Are they still crying?
Have they settled?
Should I have stayed longer?
Have I done the right thing?

Almost every parent asks us some version of the same question at collection:

“So… did they settle?”

And usually, what they really mean is:

“Were they upset the whole time I was gone?”

So here’s the honest answer.

Some children cry when their parent leaves. Some don’t. Some seem completely fine at drop-off and then have a wobble later in the morning.

All of those responses are normal.

For many children, the tears at the door only last a few minutes.

Not because they have suddenly forgotten you, and not because anyone is trying to distract them from how they feel.

It’s because someone they are beginning to trust is there with them.

They’re held. They’re comforted. Their feelings are acknowledged.

And then, quite often, something catches their attention.

Water.

Dough.

Car.

A favourite toy.

Something to carry, pour, dig, build or explore.

Little hands become busy and, slowly, their body begins to settle too.

A good nursery shouldn’t be trying to stop a child from feeling sad.

We should be helping them feel safe while they are sad.

That means having a familiar person there to meet them.

It means comforting rather than simply distracting.

It means paying attention to what helps that individual child regulate.

And it means being honest with you afterwards - including telling you if parts of the morning were difficult.

There’s also a question we think every parent should feel completely comfortable asking a nursery:

“If my child is still very upset after a while, what will you do and will you call me?”

You deserve a clear answer.

At Wonderbloom, if we’re concerned that your child isn’t settling, we ring you.

We would much rather have an open conversation with you than leave you wondering all day.

And perhaps the biggest thing we want parents to know is this:

The first day is often harder for you than it is for them.

🌿 Baby places at Wonderbloom
Join Us September–November 2026

We have a very limited number of places for babies aged 9–12 months.

For eligible families using Working Parent Funding, you can attend:

✨ 2 days – £0 per week childcare fee
✨ 3 days – £68.40 per week childcare fee

Yes - 2 full days of childcare can be completely covered by funding.

At Wonderbloom, our baby provision is intentionally small, but in a huge space.

🤍 Maximum 12 babies per class
🤍 A large, spacious environment
🤍 Relationship-led care
🤍 A curriculum designed from babyhood
🤍 Time and space to crawl, explore, communicate, play and develop at their own pace

We don’t believe babies should simply be “looked after”.

Our environment and curriculum are designed around how babies actually learn — through secure relationships, movement, sensory experiences, curiosity, communication and exploration.

Food and consumables are optional. You can opt into our package or provide your own.

A valid Working Parent Funding eligibility code is required to access funded places at these prices.

Once our baby places are filled, we will not increase the class size.

🌿 Be KINDER in Action 🌿

Over the last 13 weeks, our children have achieved over 440 developmental next steps—a wonderful reflection of the learning happening every day at Wonderbloom. 💚

Our Be KINDER curriculum has guided our focus this term:

💚 Kind – Helping our youngest children feel settled, confident and ready to explore.

💪 Independent – Encouraging our toddlers to do more for themselves through everyday routines.

🔢 Numeracy – A real focus in preschool, leading to fantastic progress in early maths through playful, hands-on learning.

💬 Dynamic Communicators – Supporting children to express themselves with growing confidence.

🎨 Expressive – Inspiring creativity, imagination and curiosity every day.

🌱 Resilient – Helping children persevere, problem-solve and have the confidence to keep trying.

We’re incredibly proud of every child, our amazing team and our wonderful families who make this journey possible. Here’s to another term of growing, learning and flourishing together! 💚

At Wonderbloom, inclusion isn’t a separate intervention.

It isn’t one child sitting with a 1:1 adult in the corner.

And it isn’t about expecting children to “fit” into our environment.

It’s about adapting the environment around children instead.

Because every child deserves to feel:
• safe
• understood
• capable
• included
• valued

Some children need visuals.
Some need movement.
Some need quieter spaces.
Some need longer processing time.
Some need adults to slow down.
Some need help understanding emotions.
Some need support joining play.
Some need alternative ways to communicate.

And honestly?

Most children benefit from those things.

That’s why many of our support strategies are embedded for everyone — not just children with identified SEND.

You’ll see:
🌿 visual routines
🌿 calm spaces
🌿 flexible transitions
🌿 signing and gestures
🌿 sensory opportunities
🌿 emotionally responsive adults
🌿 child-led communication support
🌿 slower paced interactions
🌿 smaller group experiences

Because inclusion shouldn’t begin after a child is struggling.

It should already exist when they arrive.

24/05/2026

We intentionally operate above minimum staffing ratios across our nursery.

Why?

Because early years care is about far more than supervision.

Children need emotionally available adults.

Adults with time to notice the small things.

Time to extend learning through meaningful conversations.

Time to slow down.

Higher ratios help us protect the calm, responsive environment we believe children deserve.

Especially for our youngest children and those with additional needs.

Because “meeting minimum” and “providing the best possible environment” are not always the same thing.

It’s moments like these that remind us what a special team and community we have at Wonderbloom. 💛
Our hearts don’t just show up for the children we care for each day — they extend far beyond our walls and into our wider community.

This year, together with our incredible parents, we’ve supported so many local initiatives. Today was another one of those moments. When we delivered Christmas gifts to Shopwise, the ladies were moved to tears. They were genuinely overwhelmed by the kindness shown by our Wonderbloom family.

These are the moments that make every bit of effort worthwhile.
Thank you to our parents, our staff, and everyone who chooses to stand with us. Your generosity continues to make a real difference. 🎁✨
