Wow! This half term seems to be flying along!! We have been so busy with all our learning. We have been exploring colour mixing, creating collages, painting with beetroot, creating flower gardens and our favourite activity for this time of the year…making huge nests on the field! Hope you enjoy seeing all the fun we have had! 😊

We have had a fun and busy few weeks at preschool. We liked getting our hands messy with powder paint and seeing what colours we made. We explored different textures and liked to paint on felt.
We have built roads for our cars using the building tools. This helped to develop our imagination and turn taking skills when racing the cars.
We enjoyed playing the game of finding items that are circular shape. We then grouped them together and liked to use the magnifying glasses to look at them in more detail.
We bullt bridges using the big wooden blocks and liked to find out the biggest vehicle that fitted under the bridge.
We are exploring Spring and looking at the changes and lifecycles of animals. We had lots of fun making our nests with eggs and chicks 🐣
We have been reading the story of “Owl babies”. We have enjoyed exploring and making owl nests using props from our story sack. We will continue to explore Spring further.

We have had another lovely and busy week at preschool. We have enjoyed listening to the story of The Gingerbread Man and re telling it back to our friends. We liked to use our props to role play the story. We created our own gingerbread bread men pictures and used a range of collage materials to stick with.
We liked to explore flour play. We made marks using our fingers and also liked to drive cars through it and look at the marks made. We loved getting our hands all messy!
We have been developing our fine motor skills further using dry spaghetti to mark make with in paint. We learnt quickly that we had to hold the spaghetti gently and make little strokes on paper as it breaks very easily! The children had lots of fun exploring this. We also added spaghetti and straws into play dough to create our cakes and pies. We liked to use our fine motor skills when posting the spaghetti down the straw!

We have also worked together to make a road, using the wooden bricks, to race our cars along. We took turns and shared the cars with our friends. This helped with the development of our problem solving and social skills.
We continue to explore numbers and letters. We liked to mark make numbers in the play dough to help develop our number recognition.
We have been strengthening our hand muscles when using the tools to saw, screw and bang nails into a cardboard box. We had lots of fun doing this and worked together as a team.

We had lots of fun last week exploring the story of Goldilocks and the three bears! We did lots of role play by making up our own stories using the props and toy house. We were able to develop our understanding and maths skills further when exploring small, medium and large and then bringing mathematical language into our play. We liked to get our hands all messy when we made oat biscuit bakes. This developed our science and mathematical skills when talking about weight and observing what happens when you mix ingredients together, changing the texture and consistency.
We enjoyed building homes for safari animals, using the small world resources to create stories and develop our imagination further.
We have explored paint and how colours can be changed.

Photos from Pyrford Preschool's post 25/02/2022

Today Preschool have very much enjoyed seeing a real working digger! We were super excited and some of us were even eager to go on the digger and have a go at working the controls! We spoke about how the digger works, the sounds it makes and what the digger does. We also liked to watch the digger in action. We spoke about where we find diggers. Some of us enjoyed playing with the toy diggers and liked to dig up our own mud in the preschool garden.

Our love of potion making just keeps growing! Thankfully our grown ups supplied us with a range of ingredients to investigate and create with! We had rice, marshmallows, spaghetti, smash, water, in a variety of colours, and plenty of bottles and spoons to use!
Outside we discovered that ice had formed in some of the buckets and we very much wanted to use this within our potion making in the garden. We decided to get out the tools to break down the ice so we could get to work.

Photos from Pyrford Preschool's post 07/02/2022

We had a lovely donation of fruit to explore and we used the bananas to work on our cutting skills. Some of us enjoyed the challenge of cutting through the skin! Some of us peeled the bananas first…both ways are great for developing our fine motor skills.
We had a great time decorating our biscuits…we made dinosaurs, crocodiles and even a fairy biscuit.
We have been working really hard to choose the creative resources we would like to use. You can see from our collages that we have selected lots of bright colours and a variety of materials. Outside we have been using our ramps to roll balls down…it’s very tricky to get the ball to stay on till the end of the ramp! We also enjoy using the ramps as part of obstacle courses for us to walk up and down.

Photos from Pyrford Preschool's post 07/02/2022

We have been loving the mud kitchen that has been added to our garden. We make so many wonderful potions! We have enjoyed using the diggers to help clear up some of the mud on the floor.
We have carried out some super colour matching activities, both indoors and outdoors. We love being able to locate our own resources from around the hall to add to the colour matching activity. We enjoyed making jam sandwiches and resisted the urge to take a bite straight away! Such a great activity to develop our hand and arm strength.
We have been using our imagination to tell stories with unusual objects…I wonder if you can guess what our story was about?

We hunted for big, small, tiny, long and shiny items! 🤩

The children have been very busy the last couple of weeks exploring lots of messy play to create Christmas pictures. We have explored glue, paint and glitter with our hands. This helps with our fine motor skills and to strengthen and develop our muscles. We have used scissors to practice our cutting skills. We have very much enjoyed wrapping up boxes and toys and then having lots of fun giving them to our friends to unwrap and find out what the surprise is! We also loved to decorate our Christmas tree 🎄 and make a star for the top.
We have explored different coloured water and paint to see what colours we can create. We have used pipettes to squeeze water into different sized containers to make them full and half full. This brings Maths and Science into our learning.
We have enjoyed building with our natural wooden materials.
