Today our young coders stepped into the world of AI + machine learning using the BBC micro:bit. They:

✨ Trained their very own machine learning model using real data from the micro:bit’s movement sensor, and recorded data samples of exercising vs not exercising
✨ Watched how the computer spotted patterns in their movements
✨ Used MakeCode to turn that model into a working activity timer that automatically detects when they’re moving and when they’re resting, using the sensors and lights in the micro:bit
✨ Tested, tweaked, and improved their models just like real AI engineers to make the more accurate, and detect different types of exercise

And for those with 10 minutes to spare, they;
⛄ Built a festive “Whack-a-Snowman” game in MakeCode Arcade.

A fantastic session to round off the term.

Hi Facebook, it’s been a while! 👋
We’ve been busy behind the scenes at Quest STEM giving our school clubs a little refresh — and our young makers have been amazing this term!

🔵 Years 5 & 6 – Code & Build Club
Our older students have been diving into a mix of hands-on kits and digital creativity. This term they’ve:
✨ Coded interactive pets and games on the micro:bit
✨ Built working circuits using Kitronik electronics and Makey Makey
✨ Designed and coded their very first websites using HTML — each one themed around an animal of their choice!
We’re incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved.

🟡 Years 3 & 4 – LEGO Robotics Club
Our younger learners have tackled a new weekly challenge, exploring motors, mechanisms and creative problem-solving. We’re already seeing brilliant original builds from both new and returning members!

All of this is part of our new Pathway: From Fun to Pro - designed to help more children grow their STEM confidence step by step.
More on that soon… 🚀

We're out for summer!

We've enjoyed our quirky creations this half term, we can't wait to start back again with our refreshed format in September

- Lego Robotics (Beginners), and;
- Code & Build Clubs (Intermediate)

Until then, check in with us over summer for some fun ideas and challenges.

Big thanks to our young engineers at Kelvedon and Chipping Hill Primary School for all their creative ideas this year.

Have a wonderful break!

We had fun remixing Lego creations today, to make them even better; lots of creativity on show. We can't way to see what quirky creations our young engineers make next week

We also challenged one of our young engineers with a new micro:bit project this week; we think they did a brilliant job with their mechanical crab.
