A Summer Evening to Remember 🌿
Our August Davenham WI meeting was a little different — and very special indeed!
With our WI celebrating its 95th anniversary in September, we decided to mark the occasion with a wonderful summer garden party. One of our members Christine allowed us to use her beautiful garden for our celebrations.

Members brought an amazing array of delicious food and drinks to share, with plenty of yummy puddings to tempt everyone! 🍰🥂

Christine’s stunning garden provided the perfect setting. With its beautiful mature planting and ample areas to sit and chat, plus fabulous vegetable garden and so many wonderful areas to explore, it really was a sight to behold.

As Wednesday was the night of the eclipse, members shared their glasses to watch this amazing event together. 🌙

It was a lovely evening of friendship, laughter, delicious food and a little bit of celestial magic — a truly memorable way to celebrate as we look forward to 95 years of Davenham WI. ❤️

A huge thank you to Christine and her husband Jack for welcoming us into their beautiful garden and to everyone who contributed to such a fabulous evening.

Our WI meeting in Davenham was a wonderfully relaxing experience. We were delighted to welcome Sharon Curran as our speaker, who introduced us to the calming benefits of a sound bath.
Members made themselves comfortable either lying on mats on the floor or sitting in chairs before the session began.
The soothing sounds created a peaceful atmosphere, leaving everyone feeling refreshed and relaxed. Afterwards, we enjoyed a cup of herbal tea together, providing the perfect ending to a truly enjoyable and restorative evening.

There is no meeting in August, but we return in September with Kate Dawes, who will be talking to us about Botanical Pen Drawing For Wellbeing.

Our meeting is at The Methodist Church Hall, Firthfields on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. Everyone is made very welcolme, so do come and join us and see what we are about. The first visit is free.

Members of Davenham WI recently enjoyed attending the annual Literary Lunch at Hartford Golf Club, organised by the Cheshire Federation of Women's Institutes.
Our guest speaker was Jane Costello, the Sunday Times bestselling author of 16 novels, many of them romantic comedy. She also writes under another pen name of Catherine Issacs. Her books are enjoyed by readers around the world.
Jane gave a fascinating and entertaining talk about the joys and challenges of being a romance writer.
She was born in Liverpool and shared how her writing career began, and her passion for storytelling shone through every part of her presentation.

Before becoming a full-time novelist, Jane worked as both a reporter and an editor for several newspapers.
Jane wrote her first novel , Bridesmaids whilst on maternity leave and she gave a very entertaining account of that 'first call' from a leading publisher.

She also spoke about the opportunities her success has brought, including book tours across the United States and visits to many other cities promoting her latest novel.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring afternoon, and everyone came away with a greater appreciation of the dedication and creativity involved in writing romantic fiction.
