Q. Will my ex be able to cross-examine me?
A. No. If there are any concerns about domestic abuse your ex won’t be allowed to question you directly - either their barrister will ask the questions, or if your ex is a Litigant in Pers they will be appointed a QLR ( Qualified Legal Representative) to ask the questions. If no QLR is available the judge will receive questions in advance and ask them to you. Remember also that cross-examination only happens in fact finding or final hearings.

Q. What’s better- to get a barrister or self-represent?
A. To be honest it depends on what you can afford ( if you aren’t getting Legal Aid). Also consider how you might feel about speaking up for yourself-will you feel able to say what you want, do you feel you will be able to explain your concerns better than a Barrister? Many people feel frustrated that they don’t get chance to speak if using a barrister, others need the reassurance that a barrister provides. Talk to me and I can help you decide what is the best option for you.

Q. Do I need to have all my evidence ready for the first hearing?
A. No you don’t- you need an idea of what you might want to introduce as evidence but you don’t need it all ready.
