This has been an absolute hit. Potion making. Fine-motor. Colour mixing. Taste-safe. All it is is one drop if food colouring in water and some empty pots and pipettes.

Observational drawing in reception! This is so exciting and cannot wait the children’s versions of the conkers. They ate so curious and love all the input they are receiving in class. It does feel like we have finally transitioned from the settling in stage to a stage where we really start some amazing quality work!

Topic: our community, people who help us. Post office on a sand base instead of water this week. The role play has converted into farmer’s market. This will also support our Maths topic of compare. This week I am also starting RWI for a bit more in depth storytime. I cannot wait to see how my class responds to the new story time. Our biggest winner of the day is still our music session so we have out these at the end of each day as it just gives consistency, the children also know music means end of the day and it helps the end of transition.

We are still really really struggling with sitting on the carpet, the children just cannot sit still! I have tried chairs instead of the carpet and it was lovely but then there were just chairs everywhere during our activities and that also did not quite feel like early years. 🤔

Calm mornings in class. The transition from home to school is a really tricky one for some children. We start our day with a soft start, dimmed lights, fake candles, breakfast in class, threading cheerios on pipe cleaners, magic water paint and a nice talk. The mornings are still not as calm as we would like them to be but we are working on it with the children. 🧘‍♀️

It has become obvious for me that I need visuals with written words everywhere in the classroom to expose the children to them. I turned around to spot this little boy write full sentences on the board and to say I was in shock is an understatement. I started looking around and spotted that he copied this from@the where I have got a book on display and all my signs. I now have got books in all@my areas, Maths, Writing, Home corner, this week in the Role play too.

School allotment is in its peak! Yellow cherry tomatoes for snack time and brussel sprouts for the slow cooker tomorrow. Most days we prepare a hotpot in the morning, the children wash, cut up the vegetables and then it is cooked during the day in our slowcooker on high and it is ready for around 2pm when the children get hungry. Yes they get a proper hotpot for their snack time in the afternoon 😍
There is so many benefits of cooking activities. They learn about food, where it comes from, we talk about the colours they have, the textures, if they feel cold because sometimes they come from the freezer, then lots of fine-motor skills during all the chopping and cutting. It is also very nurturing for them to participate in cooking activities as it resembles a home environment when they are cooking with mum or dad. They feel proud and yes they are eating the broccoli, brussel sprouts, potatoes, cabbages, carrots, cauliflower too! 🙃
