This week we’ve been enjoying the wonderful story Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson!

The children have loved exploring the story through lots of fun, hands-on activities. We’ve been pouring ingredients, mixing and stirring our magical cauldrons, and using the story puppets to bring the characters to life and reenact the adventures of the witch and her friends. 🪄

It’s been a lovely way to encourage imaginative play, develop language skills and bring our favourite story to life through play and exploration! 🧙‍♀️🐉🐸

🍂 A lovely little autumn craft activity 🍂

We collected some beautiful autumn leaves and used them to create our own pictures. We enjoyed exploring the different colours and textures, feeling the leaves and noticing how each one was different. 🍁

As with any activity involving natural resources, there was always the possibility of finding a little visitor! So, our activity was extended into a wonderful opportunity to learn more about a slug and a spider who decided they wanted to join in too. 🕷️🐌

A simple activity that encouraged creativity, sensory exploration, curiosity and lots of opportunities for learning ☺️

Last week we attended a fantastic event that was put on for childminders by the Liverpool City Region and Beyond Stronger Practice Hub based around the wonderful story Disgusting and Delicious shapes written by Denise Wright who attended the session and gave each child a signed copy of her new book 📚

This week we have been looking at autumn colours 🍂

I’m so ready for cozy yellows and browns now.

The children enjoyed burying the woodland animals under the leaves 🍂

We enjoyed looking the owl nesting doll and comparing the smallest owl to the biggest 🦉

And we enjoyed getting super messy with some autumn paint colours and creating our own masterpieces 🎨

I look at the different ways I can support these schemas as they are so important to a child’s learning.

It’s interesting to watch the children when they are in the continuous provision and see what schemas they are enjoying.
