I’ve asked myself several times over why I have such an obsession with drying wild grasses - all suggestions on a postcard please 😉🌾
Aesthetically I find them beautiful, the chaotic patterns and structures to them, the calm neutral colours …anyone else with me?
I’ve studied them, sketched them and ultimately distilled their shapes into stencils, they feature a lot in my work.
They’re certainly at their best currently, especially with low golden evening sunlight behind them.

I’ve mixed a delicious new coloured fabric paint to capture and celebrate the seasonal shift in hues that is already happening.
Say hello to “Quince” - beautiful and elegant sitting firmly between yellow and green, a slightly dusty olive/gold colour.
Perfect for use at the October workshop I thought, but with everything in the gardens and countryside drying the colour seems apt for now!

I appreciate the current big topic is heat temperature, but I’m also noticing the change in colour temperature!
Richer, deeper blues, greens are shifting to warmer more golden versions, corn, to***co and mahogany are all names that I would apply to hues I’m seeing.

A cooler evening walk by the river on Tuesday treated me to some spectacular views.

And of course I’m doing my very best to capture them for folks in the forthcoming stencilling projects for September and October.

It’s been an absolute age since I showed up here on the grid, or indeed posted here rather than just stories - lots of stencilling workshop goodness has been going on behind the scenes.

Cushions, Drum Lampshades, Tea trays, Serviettes…. Stencilling and chalk painting - it’s all been going on.

I really should be posting about up and coming hand printing & stencilling courses, or showing you the fabulous results from the recent ones. But instead here I am sharing with you the changing colours of plants and colours in the garden.
It’s all going rather warm olive, mustard and old gold.
Personally I just love these colours!

Oh… and my re-arranged display in where I’m pleased with the plant drawings that I added to the glass panel at the back of my little display area.
Helps to give it a summery vibe 🌼🌾🌸

Snippets from the recent workshop when beautiful Poppy flowers and Daisies were stencil printed by both complete beginners and returning students. The weather that weekend may have been dreadful, but the day passed with everyone completely engaged in creating painterly flowers in fabric paint.

Little snippets from this evening and a project that I’ve been working on to inspire the people booked into the “Celebrate Summer Gardens” stencil and chalk paint workshop.

The light atmospherics early evening were so calm, muted and silvery, still hot but different to the bright sky heat of earlier in the week. Sounds awful but I’m grateful that the temps have dropped a bit as I’m rubbish in the heat 🤪🥵

The part that people always comment on at the end of a stencil printing and lampshade making course is how professional their shades look.

Over the following days & weeks I then enjoy incoming images of beautiful Poppy drum lampshades proudly on display in homes. Sometimes being used as a ceiling light, mostly as a table lamp - but most importantly being put on show as folks feel so delighted with what they’ve created with their own hands!

Next workshop is in Wimborne, Dorset when we’ll be stencil printing stunning poppies in all manner of colours, chosen to suit your house.
