Faces and figures: our returners finished up the drawing module with another charcoal piece of a chimney sweep, how fitting! (We didn’t make them listen to the Mary Poppins soundtrack as an accompaniment). Our beginners group learned about the formulas that make up faces and figures. On to more colour in the next week!

It’s one of those terms that sounds more complicated than it is. Tone simply describes how light or dark something is. It helps turn a flat shape into something with form, create depth and decide where light and shadow need to be. One of the easiest ways to see it? Squint! Suddenly all the noise disappears and tone becomes clearer.
