Glitch!
Some of you will have noticed a glitch that occurred this afternoon w.r.t. a 'Get-Together' which WILL be happening at the George & Dragon pub, Castle Street, Salisbury on Friday 21st July between 1430-1730. The following is what I've attempted to report to FB - without success due to another glitch - but which explains the situation. Meanwhile I'll attempt to post the Event again.
"I created an 'Event' to occur between 1430-1730 on afternoon of Friday 21st July. However FB events posted two events, the second one being for 1430-1730 on Saturday 22nd. When I deleted the second event (Saurday) it deleted all the information for Friday's event as well!

in 1838 English chemist William Henry Perkin was born.
In the 21st century, we're used to having a full spectrum of colours in our wardrobes and around our homes. But we owe this cheap availability of a variety of colours to discoveries in chemistry over the last 200 years, which started a synthetic dye boom.
The synthetic dye boom started with mauveine, the purple dye discovered in 1856 by 18-year-old William Henry Perkin. The discovery was made by accident whilst Perkin was trying to synthesise quinine – an expensive natural substance used to treat malaria – by isolating aniline salts from coal tar, a waste product from the gas industry.
Perkin’s experiment failed, but he was left with an unfamiliar dark substance which, when dissolved in alcohol, produced a purple solution which could dye silk, as seen in this skirt and blouse in the collection.
