Berlin trip update: We have boarded our flight home, BA997 British Airways flight from Berlin to London Heathrow. This flight looks to be taking off on time and our estimated time of arrival of 2am Friday morning is still our aim. We will send an update once we have boarded our transport at Heathrow.

What a scorcher in Berlin today!

We started early with a visit to Bebelplatz to view the thought-provoking “Empty Library” memorial. An afternoon at the DDR Museum, showing a picture of life in East Berlin before lunch via the infamous Berlin TV Tower.

Finally, a visit to the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial, the site of a former Soviet special camp and then a Stasi remand prison from 1945 to 1989.

Another fantastic and fascinating day 🇩🇪☀️

After a morning in the Reichstag learning about the building’s history and admiring the views from its dome, we spent time reflecting at the moving Berlin Wall memorial on Bernauer Strasse and then the Olympia Stadion, the venue of Jesse Owens 1936 gold medal triumphs 🏅

We are now on our way to the Tränenpalast before over evening meal together 🇩🇪☀️

An amazing day in a city steeped in history, rounded off by visiting West Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate

Back to the hotel for dinner and now to recharge our batteries after a long day 🇩🇪
