Sometimes the most important thing we can do for a child isn’t to fix their behaviour…

It’s to understand what it’s trying to tell us.

Just like a seedling, children don’t grow because we demand it. They grow when they have the right conditions.

Big emotions, refusal, arguing, shutting down or meltdowns are often signs that a child is overwhelmed, not that they’re choosing to be difficult.

When we connect first, children feel safe enough to begin regulating. From there, they can learn, problem-solve and grow.

🌱 Every behaviour is communication.
🌱 Connection comes before correction.
🌱 Small moments of understanding create lasting change.

Helping every child feel safe, understood and ready to thrive.

What do you think children need most to thrive?

Those 0–100 moments can feel intense — for you and your child.
But they’re not a sign of “bad behaviour.” They’re a sign that your child’s nervous system needs support, not correction.

Connect → Regulate → Thrive
A simple, gentle framework to help you both breathe again.

If your child struggles with big feelings, my inbox is open.

Hi, I’m Tracey — the practitioner behind The Centred Child.
I support children and young people who experience big emotions, anxiety or overwhelm, helping them feel safe, understood and emotionally ready to thrive.

My purpose is simple:

To help children feel calmer and more confident, and to empower parents with practical support that actually works in everyday life.

At the heart of my work is a core belief:

Every child deserves to feel safe, understood and emotionally ready to learn — whether they have a diagnosis or not.

Behaviour is communication.

Connection comes before correction.

And children thrive when the adults around them understand what they need.

My mission is to help children and young people build emotional understanding, confidence and resilience so they can thrive at home and at school.

Through The Centred Child, I offer personalised emotional support and practical strategies tailored to each child and family.
Gentle guidance.
Clear tools.
Support that meets children exactly where they are.

If your child is navigating big feelings right now, you’re not alone — and I’m here to help.

Why I created The Centred Child 🌿

Throughout my years as a teacher, I noticed something important...

Some children weren’t struggling because they couldn’t learn.

They were struggling because emotions, worries, confidence or feeling overwhelmed were getting in the way.

Behind the behaviour, there was often a child who needed to be understood before they could be expected to change.

This is why I created The Centred Child.

A place where children can learn to:
🤝 Connect with themselves and others
🌱 Regulate their emotions and build strategies
⭐ Thrive with greater confidence

Because when children feel safe, understood and supported, they are ready to grow.

If your child struggles with big emotions, anxiety or feeling overwhelmed, I’d love to connect with you. 🌿

When your child’s emotions feel like they flare up out of nowhere — meltdowns, worries, frustration, tricky transitions — it can leave you feeling like you’re constantly reacting instead of supporting.

That’s where my work comes in.
Here’s what support with me actually looks like:

1. A calm, no‑pressure initial conversation
We talk about what’s feeling hard, what your child enjoys, what helps them feel safe, and what you’d love to see change.
This is where I get to know your child — not a checklist.

2. Gentle, personalised 1:1 sessions
Each session is built around your child’s strengths and interests.
Sessions are predictable, visual, playful and emotionally safe.
We go at their pace, not mine.

3. Clear, supportive feedback for you
After each session, you get a simple update:
what we explored
what helped
what your child found tricky
small things you can try at home
No overwhelm. No jargon. Just practical, gentle guidance.

4. A growing toolkit your child can actually use
Visuals, routines, emotional language, transition supports — tools that help them feel more confident and in control.

Parenting shouldn’t feel like firefighting.
You deserve support that feels calm, clear and doable.

If you would like to chat, you are always welcome to message me.

Connection before Learning
We were stuck in the familiar cycle of refusal and frustration.
So instead of pushing harder, I stepped away and connected through play.
A few minutes of laughter and co‑regulation changed everything.
Once the connection was there, the learning followed.

Tell me — what helps your child reconnect when things feel stuck?

Feeling overwhelmed in this heatwave? Your child might be too.
Frozen satsumas have been my favourite sensory tool this week.
Cold food gives children a gentle way to tune into their body, stay engaged, and build regulation skills in tiny, playful moments.

And yes… I use them to cool myself down too.

If you try this with your child, tell me how they respond- I love hearing sensory wins.

Children don’t need us to know everything.
They need adults who stay curious with them.

Charlie’s snake reminded me of something important — learning feels safest when it’s shared, slow, and full of questions.
When we say “I don’t know… let’s find out together,” we show children that curiosity is a strength, not a flaw.

At The Centred Child, that’s the heart of what we do.
Learning together…

"I hate learning."

Those were the words one child said to me every single day.

He was finding being in the classroom really difficult, and part of my role was to help him re-engage with learning.

Nothing I suggested interested him.

One morning, as he refused to come into the room, I simply said:

"Did you know your name is also the name of a bird? A starling."

He stopped.

Just for a moment.

He wanted to know more.

That tiny spark of curiosity turned into weeks of discovering starlings together. We learnt about their incredible murmurations, how intelligent they are, and the amazing things they can do.

Without even noticing, he was reading, asking questions, researching, writing and learning every day.

A couple of weeks later, he looked at me and smiled.

"I think I do like learning."

That moment has stayed with me.

It reminded me that children rarely dislike learning.

Often, they just haven't found a doorway into it yet.

When we begin with what matters to the child—their interests, their passions, their curiosity—we're doing more than teaching.

We're helping them feel understood.

And when a child feels understood, learning often follows.

💛 If your child is struggling with learning, tell me one thing they absolutely love. I'll reply with an idea for how that interest could become a doorway into learning.
