Wigan & Leigh College returned, with Employee Engagement Executive Andrew Fleetwood speaking to our students about the exciting opportunities available through apprenticeships, highlighting:

📚🎓 Next up in this week's series of Year 11 careers talks: Runshaw College Sixth Form Centre 🎓📚

Today, Stuart Dolman, from Runshaw's Schools Partnership Team, covered topics including extra-curricular academies and societies, the beautiful college campus, progress mentors and transport. He also advised students to apply before Christmas, as Runshaw begins its interview process in the new year.

It was lovely to see one of our former teachers, Steph Rothwell, who is now part of the team alongside Stuart. Many thanks to them both for their time and expert advice. 👏😊

🌍🖤 Happy Black History Month! 🖤🌍

As a proud multicultural community, St John Fisher will be marking Black History Month with a special assembly and activities in form classes during October.

For many years, Black History Month has rightly celebrated notable figures whose achievements have changed the course of history. This year's theme, 'Honouring Our Communities', encourages us to recognise the people whose contributions shape everyday life and inspire those around them.

Recently, at SJF, we have been fortunate to experience the very best of both worlds through our connection with the late and great Sir Billy Boston. A true national and international sporting icon and trailblazer, yet someone who always remained closely connected to the local community.

His story reminds us that greatness can have a global impact while still inspiring people at a local level, making him a perfect example of this year's theme of celebrating the individuals and communities that enrich our lives.

👨‍🎓 In this week of special careers assemblies for Year 11, today it was the turn of Winstanley College.

Stephen Brockley, PE teacher and Director of External Relations at Winstanley, talked to students about what the college has to offer, including its many enrichment activities and more than 10,000 course combinations!

Students were also encouraged to visit as many colleges as possible to get a feel for which one is the best fit for them.

🥰🧵 Wrapped Up in Kindness! 🧵🥰

A huge thank you to Project Linus UK Wigan and Leigh for their kind and generous donation of around 30 quilts and blankets to our Legacy Group. 💚

Barbara Kennedy, Area Co-ordinator for Greater Manchester, Wigan, Leigh, Bolton and Bury, presented the quilts and blankets to our Chaplain, Lilly, and our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Miss Melling. 👏

Barbara explained that the area's team of around 55 volunteer makers, together with associated groups, has produced and donated an incredible 4,000+ quilts and blankets to help bring comfort to those in need. ❤️

Some of our Legacy Group proudly showed off the beautiful quilts and blankets at the site of our future Legacy Garden, which they will help to design and develop. 🌿🌼

Project Linus UK is a 100% volunteer-led, non-profit Community Interest Company dedicated to providing comfort through handmade quilts and blankets.

While some content centres on grooming, skincare, diet and exercise, other parts of the trend can promote questionable advice, extreme practices and unrealistic expectations.

Our latest guide explores key concerns, including:

1️⃣6️⃣➕👨‍🎓 Each day this week, special careers assemblies are being held to help Year 11 students explore their post-16 options, with talks from representatives of local colleges.

Today, Wigan & Leigh College School Liaison Team Leader, Chris Gibirdi, spoke to students about college life, the wide range of courses and opportunities available and guided them through the upcoming college application process. ✅

During the presentation, it was lovely to see the paths taken by former SJF students Ethan and Ann-Marie up on the big screen!

Students were also reminded about the college's Open Evening on Monday...
