🌟 Weekly Highlights at Mighty Mossy 🌟

We've had another fantastic week of learning, creativity and discovery across school!

🌰 Acorn Class
In History, we have been learning about homes from the past and the materials they were made from. We explored how homes have changed over time and then placed different types of homes onto a timeline.

In Science, we continued our investigation of everyday materials. The children enjoyed carrying out experiments to test the properties of familiar materials and discussing their findings.

In DT, we became engineers and created our own marble runs. We focused on how to control the direction and speed of a marble, testing and adapting our designs to make them even better.

🌳 Oak Class
In Science, we thoroughly enjoyed learning about the adaptation and evolution of the peppered moth. The children were fascinated by how the species changed over time in response to its environment and the role natural selection played in its survival.

In our cross-curricular Geography and Computing lesson, we used our knowledge of plastic ocean pollution to create and edit documents in Microsoft Word. We practised adding text and images to present information clearly and effectively.

In DT, we focused on the importance of food hygiene before beginning our food preparation work. We discussed why handwashing and cleaning utensils are so important. To demonstrate how germs can spread, we used glitter on our hands before practising effective handwashing techniques. Once our hands were clean, we prepared and cut fruit safely.

🌿 Forest Friday
This week, we developed our artistic skills through observational sketching. We carefully studied natural objects before using a range of different media to add colour, texture and detail to our artwork.

πŸ“š Author Visit
We were also lucky enough to join a live Zoom session with children's author Andy Stanton! The children were excited to meet the author behind many of the books we enjoy in school, hear about his writing journey and ask questions about his stories. It was a fantastic experience and one that inspired lots of budding young writers.

A huge well done to all of our children for another week filled with curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm for learning!

🌟 Weekly Highlights at Mighty Mossy 🌟

Another busy and exciting week of learning at Mighty Mossy!

🌰 Acorn Class
In Science, we explored the properties of everyday materials and thought about why different objects are made from particular materials.

In Computing, we linked our learning to History. We practised logging on to Purple Mash independently before completing a 'To Do' task where we described different types of homes.

In History, we looked at a variety of homes and compared their similarities and differences, discussing how homes can vary depending on when and where they were built.

In Music, the children enjoyed learning how to play the glockenspiel and developing their musical skills.

🌳 Oak Class
In Science, we put our creativity to the test by designing our own animals that had adapted to survive in unusual environments, including volcanoes and other extreme habitats.

In English, we explored flashbacks and performed our own examples. We learned how this technique is used by J.K. Rowling throughout the Harry Potter series to reveal important information from the past.

In Geography, we investigated evidence of plastic pollution from around the world. We developed our enquiry skills by asking thoughtful questions and carrying out research to find answers.

πŸ‰ Wigan Warriors Visit
We were delighted to welcome visitors from Wigan Warriors to school this week. Each class took part in a fun workshop where they learned and practised a range of rugby drills. The children thoroughly enjoyed getting active and trying out new skills. Keep an eye on the newsletter for information about local rugby clubs that children may wish to join.

🌿 Forest Friday
This week, we used natural resources from our school grounds to create beautiful nature mobiles. The children showed great creativity and teamwork while designing and constructing their creations.

We are incredibly proud of all the hard work, enthusiasm and curiosity shown by the children this week. Well done, everyone!

🌟 Weekly Highlights at Mighty Mossy 🌟

Welcome back to the final half term of the school year – it's always an action-packed one! Here's what we've been up to this week:

🌰 Acorn Class
In English, we have been learning about Six Dinner Sid, a clever but greedy cat who managed to find six different owners to feed him six different dinners!

In History, we have been learning about homes in the past. We explored maps and even managed to find some of our own houses. We discussed how homes can look different from one another before drawing pictures of our houses and identifying some of their features.

In Science, we have begun our new topic on materials. We went on a classroom hunt to find different objects, thinking about the materials they are made from before identifying and labelling them.

🌳 Oak Class
In English, we completed our modelled and independent writing, producing letters to our local MP, Ashley Dalton, debating whether the monarchy should be abolished.

In Science, we began our new unit on Evolution and Inheritance, exploring how plants and animals adapt to their environments.

In Geography, we started our new topic on plastic pollution. This week, we learned why our oceans matter and the impact they have on our lives.

🏫 Class Call In
Thank you to everyone who came along to our Class Call In. It was lovely to see so many of you there! These sessions provide a wonderful opportunity for the children to share their incredible work and celebrate the progress they have made. We are always so proud of their achievements and love seeing them share their learning with such confidence.

🌿 Forest Friday
We got creative by making natural paintbrushes using resources found around our school grounds. We then experimented with different techniques, including dabbing, stamping, pressing and swiping to create unique artwork.

🀟 School of Signs
In our School of Signs sessions, we will be learning how to sign different jobs.

We can't wait to see what the rest of this exciting half term brings!

A severe allergic reaction can develop quickly, so knowing what to do in an emergency is essential.

This week’s guide gives parents, carers and educators a clear overview of adrenaline devices, including EpiPen, Jext and nasal adrenaline.

The guide covers:
β€’ Symptoms affecting the airway, breathing and circulation
β€’ How different adrenaline devices are used
β€’ Why the patient should lie down and remain still
β€’ The importance of calling 999
β€’ Why two devices should always be carried

It also reinforces a vital message: using adrenaline promptly is always better than waiting.
