Ormiston Chadwick Academy

On 11th June, ten of our female students from OCA attended the female STEM event at Cronton College.
The task was to design an "Eco Classroom" to consist of a large space and outdoor area.They then they had to present it to the panel of judges.
The team were given a list of roles and they each chose one with Efemena taking on the role of the director. Other roles included landscape architects, architects, engineers and sales and marketing. Each role involved researching and planning different parts of the overall design using iPads, creating sketches and mood boards. Part of the morning involved the different roles meeting with their counterparts from the other schools and one group went outside to measure a site and talk about how to make the best use of space. Our team took the lead in delivering the final presentation to the judges. Although they didn't win, all of the girls contributed to the task and they all worked well as a team. We are very proud!

What a phenomenal result for our Year 10 boys' rugby team who beat Saints Peter and Paul by 56 - 12 on Tuesday. They have now made it to the finals of the North West Plate.

Our Rugby Enrichment y7-9 students enjoyed a fantastic evening at AMT Headingley Stadium in Leeds, watching Leeds Rhinos take on St Helens. The group had the brilliant opportunity to watch both the Academy and First Team matches, as well as experience matchday like never before by stepping onto the pitch as flag bearers. A truly memorable experience, and our students represented us superbly throughout – a real credit to themselves!

Our Year 10 Hospitality & Catering students visited Riverside College today to work alongside their talented chefs in a professional kitchen. They made chicken parmesan, spaghetti in ragu with garlic and parmesan bread rolls and for dessert we enjoyed sticky toffee pudding and ice cream! It was a tremendous afternoon and our students were brilliant ambassadors for our school.

Year 10 Work Experience was a tremendous success! Students embraced the opportunity to experience the world of work and loved being employees for the week. Employers were full of praise for our students and have indicated their willingness to continue supporting work experience placements at OCA in the future. It was an extremely positive week that was enjoyed by staff, students, and employers alike, highlighting the value of these experiences for all involved. Last Friday 15th May, our Year 10 History students went on a day trip to London! They did a walking tour of Whitechapel to hear about crime in the late 19th century and then a visit to the London Dungeons!
Everyone had a brilliant day and our Year 10 were amazing!
