What a fantastic evening we had at our school fete! 💙

Our amazing Friends of Welford and Wickham Primary School and parent volunteers organised a wonderful event for us on Friday. From Hook a Duck and Splat the Rat to Pet the Tortoise, the teachers in the stocks and the ever-popular Guess the Baby, there was something for everyone!

The evening finished with an incredible talent show, where our children amazed us with singing, dancing, gymnastics, jokes and even skateboarding. One unforgettable highlight was a brave Year 1 pupil performing a Year 6 production song before the whole school joined in for the final chorus – there wasn't a dry eye in the house!

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a special celebration of our wonderful school community.

Wishing all our year 6 children all the best on their new adventures to secondary school and all our families a fantastic summer! ☀️

What a scorcher! ☀️💦

It may have been a very hot day, but we powered through with plenty of smiles, determination and lots of water breaks!

We ended the day by getting creative and making wet/dry silhouettes... although some of the staff got really in to it and turned into a fabulous water fight! 💧😄

There was lots of laughter, plenty of soaking, and a perfect way to cool down after such a warm day. Sometimes the best memories are the free ones with friends!

Rounded off of course with an ice cream from the Friends of Welford and Wickham Primary School. What a great Friday!

With so many of our children out today enjoying an ARK River Day or on transition visits to their secondary schools, we took the opportunity to do something a little different for Collective Worship.

Instead of gathering in the school hall, we met with Rev Mike in a peaceful, shady spot on the field. The children reflected together on many of Gods wonderful creations before joining in with some much-loved worship songs. As always, My Lighthouse was sung with great enthusiasm... HEY! (IYKYK 😊)

To keep in the spirit of the current football excitement, a few World Cup favourites also made an appearance, bringing plenty of smiles and joyful singing.

It was a lovely reminder that worship can happen anywhere, and that taking time to be together in faith, song and community is always something to treasure.

What a fabulous Summer Term we're having! 🌞

As we put the finishing touches to our learning and enjoy the final rehearsals for our summer production, we also made the most of the beautiful weather by taking some time out this morning for team sports and plenty of exercise on the field.

One of the many benefits of being a small school is the flexibility we have to tailor our days around what works best for our children. Whether that's making the most of the sunshine, adapting to the time of year, or creating opportunities for learning beyond the classroom.

It was a great opportunity to try out the new giant catapults that we were recently awarded as part of a school grant, they were really really fun!

It's been wonderful to see the children working hard, supporting one another, and having so much fun together.

🎉 Welford & Wickham Primary School is turning 170 next year! 🎉

As we look ahead to this very special milestone, we'd love to celebrate the rich history of our wonderful small village school and the generations of families who have been part of its story.

A huge thank you to Tom and Tracy from BST in Newbury for delivering an engaging and informative water safety session for our children.

Their visit was particularly timely following the recent tragic incidents involving young people losing their lives around water during periods of warm weather. As we approach the summer holidays, the advice they shared about staying safe around open water, understanding beach flags, and recognising potential dangers was invaluable.

The children were especially interested in the practical demonstration of cold water shock and learning how quickly it can affect the body, even on a warm day. It was a powerful and important message that will help our pupils make safer choices around water this summer.

Thank you, Tom and Tracy, for sharing your expertise and helping to keep our children safe.

This is why you choose a small village school ❤️

During Sports Day, some of our younger children found parts of the afternoon a little overwhelming and challenging, because lets be honest, running races isn't for everyone. Without hesitation, older children stepped in to encourage, support and help their younger friends.

Are these three children in the same year group? No.
Are they even in the same class? No.
Do they play together, eat lunch together and look after one another? Absolutely.

That’s the beauty of a small school community. It becomes more than just a school — it becomes a family. A place where every child is known, valued and cared for, and where children grow up surrounded by kindness, friendship and support.

Over the last two weeks, our Reception and Year 1 children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in their four Balance Bikeability sessions!

It has been fantastic to watch their confidence grow each week as they worked hard to develop their cycling skills. The children are now becoming very proficient in braking, steering and giving way safely to others.

We have been so impressed by their enthusiasm, determination and positive attitudes throughout the sessions, and we are incredibly proud of the progress they have made. Well done everyone!
