We love cooking, check out our Gruffalo-inspired cooking!

The our baby room Robins at great Totham have been helping us make our very own Purple Prickle Muffins and Scrambled Snake Cheese Straws.

For our Purple Prickle Muffins, we chose to make oat, banana and blueberry muffins. The children enjoyed exploring the different ingredients, feeling and smelling them and watching as they were added to the bowl.

We used simple words such as “banana,” “blueberry,” “oats,” “mix” and “purple.” The children had lots of opportunities to practise their fine motor skills as they helped to scoop, pour and mix the ingredients. They enjoyed having a turn with the spoon and watching the mixture change as we stirred it together.

We also made our Scrambled Snake Cheese Straws. The children explored the cheese and helped us to make the mixture before creating our long, wiggly snake shapes learning to describe them with words like “snake,” “long,” “cheese” and “yellow.”

Today is national Forest School Day!

Today, 9th October, we're celebrating something that's a huge part of who we are at The Treehouse Club, Forest School.

For us, Forest School isn't just an occasional trip outside or an activity saved for sunny days. Nature is part of everyday childhood.

It's muddy boots and woodland adventures. 🍂
It's asking “what happens if…?” and finding out.
It's building, climbing, creating and exploring.
It's developing confidence, independence and resilience through real experiences.
And sometimes, it's simply stopping to discover something fascinating hiding underneath a log. 🐛

Across our Treehouse settings, we give children opportunities to connect with the natural world and experience the freedom, curiosity and adventure that outdoor learning can bring.

Because childhood doesn't need to be perfectly clean, perfectly planned or confined to four walls.

Sometimes the best learning starts with an adventure. 🌳💚

Happy National Forest School Day to all the brilliant practitioners, educators and little explorers getting outside and discovering where their curiosity takes them today.

Great Totham have been making cress heads!

They have been using different materials and creating a little faces for their cress heads. This is a great activity that helps the children explore growth, nature and descriptive speech.

We talked about what the seeds need to grow and introduced the simple word “water.” The children will help to water their cress over the weeks, we cant wait to see them grow!

As we made our faces, we took the opportunity to practice new descriptive words. Pointing to our eyes, nose, mouth and ears we encouraged them to look at their own faces too. We used simple words such as “eyes,” “nose,” “mouth,” “hair,” “brown,” “blonde”.
The children listened carefully as we talked about the different colours of our hair and how everyone looks different and special.

We are The Treehouse Club!

At The Treehouse Club, we believe some of the best childhood memories start with muddy boots, big imaginations and the freedom to explore.

We’re an Essex-based family of Day Nurseries, Preschools, Out of School Clubs and Holiday Clubs, led by nature and Forest School principles.

But we're not about choosing between learning and adventure.

We want children to have both.

🌳 Exploring the natural world
🪵 Learning through hands-on experiences
🎨 Creating, building and discovering
💚 Developing confidence and independence
🧸 Being supported as the individual little person they are

Alongside the EYFS, our enrichment programme includes nature-based learning, Montessori-inspired methods, music, field trips, yoga and more.

Treehouse Club at Quilters Hall have been exploring dens and different animals in the environment. One of the children said that they have spotted an owls den. They then used a hammer, nails and feathers to create our own owls 🦉
