A quiet morning with their favourite snack

Hello everyone,

We are saddened to witness the fire at Headon Warren. It very much reinforces our approach to fire safety: we do not light fires in the dry, hot summer- especially as we’ve been experiencing of late.

Our hope was to allow children to use the ferro rods to practice making sparks but we cannot permit this and have been continually risk assessing in the last few weeks. It is just not safe to do so.

We will be planning another bushcraft activity that will replace fire lighting. For those wondering/panicking about how we’ll do our s’mores without a fire… we will be making Solar S’mores thanks to our other fire source, the sun!!!

Wishing you all well and keep safe! It’s so important our children and young people know the safety guidelines of lighting a fire.

Best practice: Avoid leaving clear glass lying around. Don’t use disposable bbq’s. Don’t light bonfires. Don’t light sparklers or fireworks. Don’t have fire pits.

Even though all of these things are lovely and enjoyable, they are simply not safe at this present time.
