I first trained in using Makaton in 2008, the value signing brings to my Childminding setting is evident and beneficial for all children. Children do not need to have a learning disability to benefit from Makaton, it helps early communication, even before aquisition of spoken language and can therefore help ease frustrations that children experience when unable to communicate. I am passionate about Makaton and would love to see all early years settings use it. What an amazing environment that would be for any Makaton user if they could communicate with others, especially other children. What an amazing inclusive and support environment that would be and if that inclusivity followed them through their school years imagine how supported and valued they would feel and the makaton users around them feeling empowered that they played a part in helping another child communicate and engage with the world. My passion for the benefits of using Makaton, especially in Early Years is why I chose to train as a Tutor, so I can one step at a time introduce Makaton to a wider audience for the benefit of all. :-)

Thanks for reading.

Congratulations to this lovely group who all complete their level 1 Makaton course on Sunday..

There was some great signing and recall and a few laughs along the way.

It was great to see people joining from across the UK, and the first time I've had people join from Qatar, not at all jealous of the 37 degree heat! 😂

I am looking forward to see the majority again in 2 weeks time for level 2!

Well done all, you should feel proud of your achievement today. :-)

Are you a childminder or Early Years setting in the UK?

Did your LA pass on the Inclusion Fund grant to support SEND within your setting?

YES? Then why not look at whole setting Makaton training, money well spent as it can support generations of children for years to come and provides valuable professional development for your team.

NO? Chances are you're a CHILDMINDER like myself, or a very small setting.

I am quite frankly appalled at any LA that did not pass this money on under the guise that they deemed a lower sum of money would have minimal impact on your setting.

I WOULD LIKE TO HELP!

If you are interested in Makaton training, please comment with your LA below, I would like to reach out to these LA's. (Please share this to get more attention)

IF I get nowhere, then I'll offer a heavily discounted MAKATON FOR...EARLY YEARS SETTINGS workshop directly to those who comment.

PLEASE SHARE THIS TO AS MANY EY COLLEAGUES AND PAGES AS YOU CAN, follow and I'll keep you posted on my progress.

More Makaton fun today, this lovely group, although small packed a mighty punch! They totally smashed their level 1 today.

They should all be so very proud of themselves. Small groups give lots of opportunities for discussion and signing and time to look through the many resources I bring with me.

Thank you for joining me, interestingly, none of them local, not even in the county! , and ! Face to face is worth the travel if you can.

Thank you for giving up your Sunday, enjoy using your new skills and well done for some great signing and a great atmosphere, you'd never know you were strangers when you walked in this morning!

Looking forward to seeing them all again next month for level 2, if you've completed level 1 already, why not join them!
