WOW What a busy and fun-filled half term STEM Tots has had!
We visited cub_playcafe and made marble runs, played with magnets and carried out chromatography experiments 🧪
We’ve made dragons and horses (also some unicorns!) and learnt about the animals in the zodiac. We’ve celebrated Valentines with some lovely keepsakes, ‘cake’ making and a lovely light table set up. And made fizzy love potions 👩🔬
Not to mention pop rockets, volcanoes and inflating balloons without using our breath!
Thank you for everyone who came to a class this last week and last half term. It was our busiest yet with every single session sold out!!
Booking open for next half term now. Link in the comments or our bio.
Phew 😮💨 I might need to lie down now!

If you run a STEAM business, tutor, or education-based brand….this is the one event I’d recommend.
Full STEAM Ahead 2026
📍 Saturday 11 April 2026
📍 Holiday Inn Manchester – City Centre
⏰ 10:00am – 5:00pm (STEAM Impact Awards presented live at the end of the day)
Full STEAM Ahead isn’t stuffy and boring. It isn’t awkward networking. It’s real people, real friends, useful knowledge and awesome collaborations.
I’ve put the ticket link in the comments 👇

Last Monday STEM Tots was about all things LEGO as it was International LEGO Day on Wednesday 28 January.
We were LEGO Detectives, built a LEGO city, towers and bridges over a river. Painted with LEGO and rescued figures from the ice.
The ice was definitely the favourite, so lovely to see everyone engaged and determined to rescue all the animals and people who were trapped. All whilst developing key skills.
✍️ Squeezing pipettes, building hand strength and coordination, essential for pen grip muscles.
🫗Developing hand-eye coordination and motor skills pouring and squirting water where they wanted it to go.
🧠 Building resilience, it took about 45mins to get all the figures out!
🗣️Language development; use of STEM vocabulary and discussion; warm, cold, slippery, melting, solid, liquid.

Our session all about garden birds was a big hit! Little ones made their own binoculars and used them to find birds around the room, made a pinecone bird feeder to take home, made birds nests, fed chicks and played in our bird hide.
We went out in the rain a few days later and spotted a gorgeous robin in the gardens at Seaton Delaval Hall.
Did you take part in the RSPB Birdwatch? What did you spot in your garden?

What a fantastic morning at STEM Tots and a great way to start our 2026 sessions.
We put penguins down an ice slide and rescued polar animals from the ice. 🧊
We carried out experiments with colourful ice, watching the ice melt and colours mix. We watched and listened to the fizzy magic. 🪄
We made polar bear dens 🐻❄️ and igloos and painted some glorious penguins! 🐧
Why are these activities beneficial?
✏️ Fine Motor Development: Squeezing pipettes and bottles builds hand strength, coordination, and pencil grip muscles.
🧠 Cognitive Thinking: Children practise focus, control, and early planning skills as they work carefully to melt ice or build suitable structures.
❄️ Themed Play: A perfect winter invitation that brings the season to life through hands-on exploration.
🗣️Language Development: Use of winter-themed, STEM vocabulary like slippery, fizzy, frozen, melting, solid and liquid as children play.
Thank you to everyone who came along. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
We were fully booked this morning, it was lovely to see so many new faces and their excitement!
Next weeks theme is RSPB Birdwatch.
