We have LOVED watching the tree surgeons at work! An extra special thank you to them for the donation of logs too! We have talked all about how they keep safe, tried on our own safety gear, and explored how sawdust is made. 🌳

Letter hunt... children will learn letters that have a particular importance to them more easily than letters that have no significance. Introduce them to what the first letter of their name looks like and go around the house looking for this letter - is there one in the magazine on the coffee table, is there one of the cereal packet, is there one on the post that comes through the door, is there one on the front cover of their bedtime story? Once they know this they could look for the other letters in their names, or M for Mummy etc. Expand it by trying it when out for a walk...

Climb trees! In order to be able to do all of those fine motor activities as children get older, they need a lot of core, shoulder and upper arm strength. Climbing trees is a wondeful way to build these. As your child climbs, talk to them about how high they are going, how they are going to get back down, and how to keep 3 points of contact on the tree all the time (either 2 hands and one leg, or one hand and two legs). Pre-writing skills and risk management all rolled in to one! (with the added benefit of fresh air and fun!)

Floating or sinking... water is a wonderful media to explore, in the bath, in a puddle, in a paddling pool or in a tray. Try collecting different objects around the house and adding them to the water. Discover whether they float or sink and introduce this language to their vocabulary. Does what happens to them change over time? 💦
