A little update on the Jeep...

I found out today that one of the jeeps that we’ll be taking to Ukraine in early September has already been requisitioned by a medical commander serving on the border.

It’s wonderful to know that the vehicle we’re helping to get there already has a purpose and will be going directly to where it is needed.

It makes the reason behind our fundraising evening at The Engine Shed on Monday 31st August feel even more tangible. Every ticket and every donation will help towards getting vehicles like this on the road and into Ukraine.

We’ll share a little more about the journey and the work of Jeeps for Peace at the event.

A little nudge for Monday 31st August…

A few people have already told me they’re planning to come along to our Modern Jive fundraising evening at The Engine Shed, Wetherby,, which is lovely — thank you!

At the moment, though, only **seven tickets have actually been booked**, and we need to give the catering team some firm numbers **today** so they can plan the food for the evening.

So, if you’ve said "Yes, I’m coming” or have been meaning to book, this is your gentle reminder to turn that intention into a ticket!

It really does help us. We’re hoping to get to at least **50 bookings**, which is the number we need for the meal to go ahead.

The evening itself is going to be a lovely mix of dancing and socialising:

We’ll dance from 5–8pm to a great selection of Modern Jive tracks, then sit down for a simple hot meal while Bob talks about his experiences taking the vehicles being taken to Ukraine and the journey involved. There’ll be plenty of time to chat and ask questions too.

And, of course, the whole reason we’re doing this is to help raise money towards getting vehicles from North Yorkshire to Ukraine, where they can be put to practical use supporting people affected by the war.

So please, if you’re coming, **book today if you can**. And if you know someone who has said they’re coming, perhaps give them a little nudge too!

No pressure, no guilt — just a genuine plea to help us get the numbers in so that we can make the evening happen.

We’re getting closer – and we need your help

Our Modern Jive fundraising evening at The Engine Shed, Wetherby is now confirmed for Monday 31st August, 5–9pm.

It’s going to be a lovely evening: three hours of Modern Jive from 5–8pm, followed by a simple hot meal, time to sit and chat, and a presentation from Bob about Jeeps for Peace and the journey to Ukraine. Dancing until 9pm.

But there’s a practical reason why we’re asking people to book sooner rather than later.

The interest is mounting and people are booking but Engine Shed needs us to reach 50 bookings before they can confirm the meal. So if you’re thinking of coming, please book now rather than leaving it until the last minute. Tickets are £20 in advance, including the dancing and meal. The bar will be open throughout the evening.

And this is about more than one evening of dancing.

In early September, a team of four drivers will set off from North Yorkshire with vehicles destined for Ukraine. They’ll make the long journey through Europe, taking turns to drive and rest, before delivering the vehicles where they can be put to practical use.

Once there, the vehicles can help transport food and medicines, deliver humanitarian supplies, evacuate civilians and bring injured people to medical care.

We’re aiming to raise £500 towards the costs of getting the vehicles there.

So if you can come, please book your ticket now. If you can’t make the evening but would still like to help, a donation would be very much appreciated.

Sometimes a night of dancing can do a little more than put a smile on your face.

Tango at the Shed – Advance Booking & Payment

A little note about booking for Tango at the Shed ❤️

To make the evening run smoothly — and so that I can spend my time welcoming you, dancing and running the event rather than sorting out payments — all places must be booked and paid for at least 24 hours before the event.

Please note: there will be no payment on the door.

This is important because we need to know our numbers in advance for the coffee, tea and cake, as well as to keep the check-in process simple and stress-free on the night.

I know that sometimes people forget to pay, or prefer to pay by card, cash or bank transfer. Unfortunately, trying to manage all of this on the day takes time away from the event and means bringing extra equipment and resources that I simply don't need to be dealing with.

So, going forward please:

⏰ Booking and payment must be completed at least 24 hours before the event
🚪 No payment on the door

Once you've booked and paid, your place is secured and you can simply turn up, relax and enjoy the evening. ☕🍰💃

Save the Date – Modern Jive Fundraising Event
Monday 31st August – August Bank Holiday
The Engine Shed, Wetherby

Timing to be confirmed.

We’re planning a special Modern Jive evening at The Engine Shed in Wetherby this August Bank Holiday, and we’d love you to save the date.

The Engine Shed is a wonderful wedding and dance venue, just off the A1, and with such a strong Modern Jive following in the area, we’re hoping to bring everyone together for a really enjoyable evening of dancing and good company.

There’s also a very important reason behind the event.

Money raised through the ticket price will help towards the cost of getting vehicles from North Yorkshire to Lviv in Ukraine. A team of four drivers will collect the vehicles and make the long journey through Europe, taking turns to drive and rest along the way. Dawn Gennery, dance teacher and event organiser, will also be one of the four drivers making the journey to Lviv.

Bob Marchant is the driving force behind the initiative. Bob became involved because he wanted to do something practical rather than simply make a donation. His contribution is very hands-on — raising funds, sourcing a suitable vehicle and helping to drive it to Ukraine himself. The journeys are a significant personal commitment for the drivers, who give their time to make the long journey across Europe. The four-wheel-drive vehicles are particularly valuable in Ukraine, where they can reach difficult terrain and be adapted for a range of humanitarian purposes.
These vehicles go on to have a very practical purpose. In Ukraine they can be adapted to transport food and medicines, deliver humanitarian supplies, evacuate civilians and help bring injured people to medical care.

By 2026, Jeeps for Peace reported that more than 750 vehicles had been delivered.

So, this is simply a save the date for now — an evening of Modern Jive, friendship and good company that can also make a small but meaningful contribution to people who need it.
