How I went from ironing someone else’s work shirts to leading a team of 200 people.
I hated ironing…..so why the hell did I think that ironing other people’s clothes for cash was the right thing for me?
I used to drive around collecting bags of washing & stood ironing on a Friday night ironing peoples shirts, then dropping them off over the weekend.
It was s**t.
But what else could I do?
I told myself that was all I was capable now I was a mum.
BK (Before Kids) I worked for a leading food brand but told myself I could only do crap ironing jobs.
Why?
Because I told myself I shouldn’t want more, that being a mum should be enough.
I felt guilty for wanting a career.
I thought it was about the money – it wasn’t.
My self worth was so attached to my career before I became a mum, I told myself without a career I was worthless.
I wanted more.
I wanted to do something for myself but I felt guilty.
Guilty for feeling like this because surely being a mum should be enough.
Of course I adored being mum but I was lost. I wanted to do something for me, that was mine alone.
Money was almost secondary.
I didn’t know what to do.
I was stuck.
I didn’t want to go back to my old job because I didn’t want to leave my babies, but I also wanted to do something.
I felt years in this limbo.
Then I discovered something that worked for me.
I joined Neal’s Yard (skincare brand).
I knew nothing about skincare but thought what did I have to lose!
In my first year I won Business Builder of the Year, and a few years later qualified for a trip to Jordan.
My little business was rocking.
I was back.
I’d found me again & it was just the beginning.
