🏆✏️WRITING CHAMPIONS✏️🏆
Have you seen our new display board in the foyer? Celebrating our writing champions across the school! 🥳
Year 2 have worked hard to learn about persuasive texts this week. We looked at advertisements and posters and discovered they have slogans, rhetorical questions, powerful adjectives, and special offers. We have planned and created posters to persuade people to come and watch "Aladdin" the pantomime. Would you want to come and watch it if you saw our posters? We hope so!
The children enjoyed playing in the snow today!

We are open! ☃️ Remember to take extra care this morning we are clearing the paths and gritting but it may still be icy in places❄️
Yesterday afternoon, the children in KS2 went to the Churchill theatre to watch the pantomime!
All children were superbly behaved and had an amazing time! Oh yes they did! 😁

Our Christmas wish list closes tomorrow!
Head over to the website to donate some amazing books to our school!
Year 2 used their art skills today to make some beautiful sea creature pictures using pastels and water colours. We linked this with our science learning about water resistant materials. It was a magical lesson!
Year 2 have completed a DT project this week. They looked at how toys with wheels are put together with an axle and axle holders so that the wheels can go round. They designed, wrote instructions and then made their own vehicles which are designed to collect leaves from the playground. They tested their leaf carts, and finally evaluated their products. What an amazing week of learning!
Thank you to all our families that donated to this wonderful cause!
Do you remember The Great Toothpaste Crisis of Christmas In A Bag last year? Well there was no fear of that in 2022 thanks to Hawes Down Primary School in West Wickham who supplied so many toothbrushes and toothpastes that we've got some left over to distribute throughout the year! It's a great effort from the school, thank you so much to everyone who contributed and to Mrs Whiteman for organising the collection.

💛Children in Need💛
Don’t forget that tomorrow is own ‘spotty’ clothes day! 🔴🔵🟢🟡🟣🟠
School Council will be out on the playground raising money for Children in Need! 🧸
Jake from Prospero was on the Strictly Come Dancing results show on November 6th 💃🕺The professional dancers from the show came to visit Magpie Dance in Bromley and Jake was lucky enough to dance with them and appear on TV. 🤩
Jake met his favourite dancers, Giovanni and Kai, but we think that Jake was the star of the show!🌟
Today, the children of Hawes Down stood silent for 2 minutes in the playground to remember the fallen.
There were lots of poppy themed art activities going on throughout the school too!
As this Sunday, 13th November is Remembrance Sunday, we will be taking paper poppies around to all classes this week on behalf of the Royal British Legion.
If you would like to contribute, please give your child an envelope containing any loose change you would like to donate.
Please label the envelope with your child's name and class and ensure that it is handed to the class teacher in the morning for safe keeping until the poppy collection comes round.
Prospero and Oberon also had a visitor today! Sofia from Foal Farm Animal Rescue Centre came to talk about her work with the animals at Foal, as part of our 'World of Work' topic. The children all enjoyed hearing about the animals on the farm. Please support Foal Farm! It's free to visit and they always need donations and volunteers.
Today Hawes Down Primary School welcomed Mr Ian Dunne for Science Day 2022! 🧑🔬
He came with his newly built robot 🤖 and an array of activities to inspire the children in assemblies and workshops throughout the day.
Every year group had their own experiments too so the children have truly had a fabulous day of scintillating science! 🤩
We are SO proud of you!!! 🤩
Here is one of our very brave students cutting her hair to donate to the little princess trust for them to make a wig for a child in need.
She donated a total of 15 inches and made the decision by herself and we are very proud of her!
She has so far raised £200 for the charity!!! 🥳
As part of our Diwali celebrations at Hawes Down, the children enjoyed a visit from in our assembly today. Deepa, Neeha and Shraddha told us all about the special storytelling nature of Kathak, a classical Indian dance form that is over 2000 years old! It was beautiful to watch the whole school join in a 'dance story' followed by a stunning Kathak performance by the ladies.

Our Reception children returned to school to find that a special package had been delivered to their classrooms along with a letter that read 'Please look after the contents, keep it safe as it contains something very rare, something that some people think are extinct!' I wonder what could be inside...?
Year 2 returned after half term in style with an exciting PE dance lesson and an engaging PBuzz music lesson. We are so lucky to have such rich experiences at Hawes Down. Listen out on a Monday afternoon, you just might hear us!!
We look forward to welcoming back all our families today after a lovely half term break!
We had some exciting news over the half term!
Hawes Down have been awarded a Science Quality Mark for Excellence in Science 🥳

Are you interested in the school experience of primary aged children? Are you enthusiastic to join a team that wants to enable children to achieve, to have confidence, to be brave and to learn that compassion is good tool for life?
Hawes Down Primary School are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our Governing Body. We are specifically looking to recruit someone who has experience in the financial world, but will welcome contact from anyone who feels that being a local school governor would allow them to share their skills, knowledge and experience. We are keen that our Governing Body is representative of the diversity within the school
If you are interested please contact Helen Randell at [email protected].
Yesterday afternoon, our netball team went to their very first tournament! 🏆

Last week, Year 5 travelled back thousands of years to Ancient Greece for their introduction to this term's topic, "It's All Greek To Me!" And it certainly was All Greek! Our exciting and enriching experiences included learning some facts about the Ancient Greeks, performing the Greek myth, "Odysseus and the Cyclops", designing our own Greek amphorae using key patterns and tasting some 'authentic' Greek delicacies. Everyone looked amazing in their costumes and engaged in the activities with enthusiasm. Well done Year 5!
We would like to congratulate all the children for their amazing efforts this week, even with the deeply saddening news that we all received yesterday.
The children took part in a whole school assembly today, where we reflected on Her Majesty’s remarkable life and dedication to our country.
We are so excited to welcome you all back to school today!! 🥳
Happy Summer Holidays to all our families!!!

Epic day yesterday! Excellent visit to Bembridge Lifeboat station. As always they love hosting our pupils and school. In the afternoon we managed to do all there was to do at Robin Hill Park. The Birds of Prey session was sensational. The disco was immense, probably the best ever. The children were very hard to wake this morning. As we depart the ferry today we will update as best we can with eta to school. We have no control over the traffic, but especially the A3 and M25. This and it is a Friday. We will be parking outside Glebe School. Please do not wait for children where the coach parks. The children have been superstars. 🌟
🚨YEAR 6 NEWS🚨
The children had a brilliant day on Wednesday at Havenstreet Railway. The closest Hogwarts Express experience you can have! This was followed by a tour of Carisbrook Castle, then off to the beach. The theatre was incredibly loud. Children were asleep immediately and slow to start this morning. The children have been superb role models. ⭐️
🚨YEAR 6 NEWS🚨
Huge praise for the children (and adults) for conquering Tennyson Down! Much fun and many sweets bought at Alum Bay Park. Excellent time at the Sandown Pier. Although some of the driving skills displayed on the bumper cars were questionable! The children took no time going to sleep. The children continued to be the very best of ambassadors for our school and its community.
🚨YEAR 6 NEWS🚨
After an excellent experience at Monkey Haven, we arrived at hotel, unpacked and went straight to beach to take advantage of wonderful weather. Children enjoyed dinner, and this was followed by a park visit. Children were tired and went to sleep promptly. Today Tennyson Down awaits. The children have been tremendous ambassadors for the school. They will be reminded to apply lots of sunscreen today, all day! This, and to constantly have a cap or hat on. Weather is terrific again. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
🚨YEAR 6 NEWS🚨
Year 6 have arrived on the Isle of Wight. The journey was very good. Thank you to parents for ensuring children were at school on time. This helped enormously in us getting through what later became a huge tail-back. We are now on the way to Monkey Haven. The next post will be tomorrow morning. Many thanks, Mr De Freitas.
