It was wonderful to see so many of our students take part in our Rosh Hashanah celebrations at lunchtime today!

Students came together to learn more about Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and why it is such an important time for Jewish communities around the world.

As part of the celebration, students had the opportunity to take part in the tradition of dipping apples in honey, symbolising the hope for a sweet and happy new year. We also reflected on some of the important themes of Rosh Hashanah, including forgiveness, reflection, new beginnings and making positive changes for the year ahead.

It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved, asking questions and taking the opportunity to learn more about the beliefs and traditions of others.

We would like to wish a wonderful Rosh Hashanah to all of our students, families and members of our wider community who are celebrating. Wishing you peace, happiness and a sweet new year.

This week’s Votes for Schools topic asked students:

“Would you wear smart glasses?”

The vote was very close, but 53% voted no, compared with 47% who voted yes.

Students considered some of the opportunities smart glasses could offer, alongside questions around privacy, technology, safety and how wearable technology might affect everyday life.

A great opportunity for students to explore a current issue, hear different viewpoints and make an informed decision!

This week, as part of their Difference course, Year 7 RE students have been exploring the idea of worldviews and thinking about what shapes the way we see and understand the world.

Students considered the different beliefs, values, experiences, cultures, communities and influences that are important to them. They then created their own worldview paper chains, with each link representing a different part of their identity or worldview.

Students found someone who shared something in common with them and joined their chains together, helping them to explore both the similarities and differences within the worldviews of their class.

Well done, Year 7, for such thoughtful and creative work!
