Duke Street Pre-School is a small childcare provision for children aged 2–5 years, offering a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment where children are supported to make good progress across all areas of development.

Our small group sizes enable staff to develop strong, secure relationships with children and families. Practitioners know children well and provide individualised support, helping children to feel confident, settled, and ready to learn.

Learning is delivered through a play-based curriculum, carefully planned to reflect children’s interests and developmental needs. Staff place a strong emphasis on communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, and early skills for school readiness.

The setting was rated Good by Ofsted, reflecting our commitment to maintaining high standards of care, learning, and safeguarding.

Opening Times
• Monday & Wednesday: 9:00am – 3:00pm
• Tuesday & Thursday: 9:00am – 12:00pm

Duke Street Pre-School works in partnership with parents and carers to ensure each child’s needs are met and that all children are supported to achieve their full potential.

You can’t rush writing.

It starts in the body- in balance, grip, twist, and reach.
It starts in the stories children tell with their hands, their voices, their play.
It starts in meaning- in wanting to say something, not just write something down.

By the time a pencil appears, so much has already been written.
In the sand.
In the air.
In the imagination that’s been rehearsing for months.

Writing begins in movement, play, and meaning.

The new Writing Progression shows what that really looks like.
