How to Baby Play...... 👋👏

Baby play can be daunting…. Maybe you aren't sure what to do, or don't want to look silly, perhaps you feel like your baby is too young, or you aren't sure what they like? This is all completely NORMAL!

Everyone has to learn to play.

Check out the Cbeebies website for lots of brilliant tips, or join a local class Baby Development class like The Baby Cloud. Our classes give loads of ideas every week, plus you get to take all your props home and continue the play all week!

Lets Make Some Noise Baby!!

Making noises with instruments 🥁🎸 is something babies have to learn – Mastering logic of shaking and baby realising they made the noise is activating ‘Cause and Effect’. It’s AMAZING to watch!

Help them to learn by encouraging them to grip the instrument and then giving it a little shake. Show them how to use it, babies learn by watching what you do.

How did your baby react to the noise they made by banging a drum or shaking a maraca?

Balls aren't JUST balls to a baby!!!

Grab the play balls from your kit.... 🏀🥎🏐
Making choices – lay balls out in front of baby. You may notice their gaze lands on one in particular, or they reach out or grab a ball.

Practice the experiment again and again and note their preferences. Does this change with age? or day to day?

TALK, TALK, TALK.....

Say baby's attention is taken by an object or experience....
By talking to baby about the item/adventure and its properties, you are building their understanding of the world and their surroundings.

This will support them in building their own communication skills and word bank, but also, by watching your mouth movements, mimicking sounds and breath control. Clever eh?!

To all our parents with babies off to school, this is for you - Credit Emma Robinson 💞

I know you're rather busy
First day back, there's just no time
A whole new class of little ones
And this one here is mine

I'm sure you have things covered
And have done this lots before
But my boy is very little
He hasn't long turned four

In his uniform this morning
He looked so tall and steady
But now beside your great big school
I’m not quite sure he’s ready

Do you help them eat their lunch?
Are you quick to soothe their fears?
And if he falls and hurts his knee
Will someone dry his tears?

And what if no-one plays with him?
What if someone’s mean?
What if two kids have a fight
And he’s caught in between?

You’re right, I have to leave now
It’s time for him to go
I’m sure he’ll learn so much from you
Things that I don’t know

Yes, I’m sure they settle quickly
That he’s fine now without me
I know he has to go to school
It’s just so fast, you see

It seems like just a blink ago
I first held him in my arms
It’s been my job to love, to teach
To keep him safe from harm

So, when I wave goodbye in a moment
And he turns to walk inside
Forgive me if I crumple
Into tears of loss and pride

I know as I give him one more kiss
And watch him walk away,
That he’ll never again be wholly mine
As he was before today
