Could you spare a little time to support SPECS? 💙

As SPECS continues to grow, we would love to welcome a few parents, carers or members of our community to our volunteer team.

We know everyone has busy lives, so volunteering doesn’t have to mean committing every week. Even helping once a month or at an occasional event would make a real difference.

We’re looking for friendly and reliable people who could help with things such as:

✨ Setting up and packing away our Thursday play sessions
✨ Welcoming families and helping activities run smoothly
✨ Making drinks or helping with refreshments
✨ Supporting us at trips, parties and special events
✨ Preparing crafts, party bags or resources behind the scenes
✨ Helping with fundraising and sharing new ideas

You don’t need any special qualifications or previous experience—just an understanding, welcoming attitude and a desire to support neurodivergent children and their families.

There will also be opportunities to complete training funded by SPECS, including safeguarding, food hygiene and first aid. This is a lovely chance to gain useful skills and experience while supporting your local community.

Children remain the responsibility of their parent or carer during our sessions, and volunteers can choose the type of help and level of commitment that suits them.

SPECS has grown because of the wonderful families who support us, but we now need a few more helping hands to continue offering these opportunities.

If you’re interested, please message the SPECS page or speak to Kylie for an informal chat. There’s absolutely no pressure—we would simply love to hear how you may be able to help. 💙

🌈 WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO JOIN SPECS! 🌈

As we prepare for the official opening of our new SPECS Sensory Room, we’re looking for a Sensory Room Session Worker to join us and help run regular sessions for our families. 💙

This would initially be a zero-hours role, expected to average around 5–6 hours per week, depending on bookings, at £13.50 per hour.

The role will include welcoming families, checking bookings, helping sessions run smoothly, resetting and tidying the sensory room between bookings, recording attendance and helping us maintain a calm, safe and welcoming environment.

We’re looking for someone who is:

💙 Friendly, patient and approachable
🌈 Reliable and able to work independently
🧩 Understanding of autism, ALN and sensory needs
👨‍👩‍👧 Comfortable working alongside children and their parents/carers
✨ Organised and happy to help with the day-to-day running of the room

Experience working with neurodivergent children or families would be an advantage, although the right attitude and understanding are just as important.

Hours may include Saturdays and school holidays.

Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, right-to-work checks and the appropriate DBS check.

📩 Interested? Send us a private message with a little about yourself, any relevant experience and your general availability.

Please feel free to tag or share with anyone you think may be perfect for the role. 💙🌈

Our Sensory Room has been made possible thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund.

🤸💜 What a fantastic time we had at Swansea Gymnastics today!

This was our last but one event of the summer holidays, and it was lovely seeing the children having so much fun, getting active and enjoying the session together. 🌈✨

A huge thank you to Swansea Council’s Summer Wellbeing Grant for making today’s session possible and helping us provide so many wonderful opportunities for our SPECS families this summer. 💜

🎥 Here’s a little look at today’s fun — we hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!

Just one more summer event to go! 🥰💜
