Warsash Music Tuition I’m Marianne Shirley, a music and piano teacher serving the local community.

I help students discover their musicality and grow into confident, creative musicians. My studio warmly welcomes all ages, abilities and backgrounds - music is for everyone! 🎹💛 I have taught music and playing the piano to a variety of ages from young children to adults for six years in popular and classical piano styles. I am a Grade 8 qualified pianist undertaking professional piano teacher train

ing with top UK music educators. Playing music is a truly awesome lifetime activity to enjoy solo or with family and friends, and in this spirit, my lessons are fun, progressive and full of creative music making.

I absolutely loved taking part in The Curious Piano Teachers ‘Summer Challenge 2025’, which focused on embracing diversity in piano literature.

I heard inspiring webinars that opened my eyes and ears to a rich world of composers from different cultures, genders, and time periods — including many incredible contemporary voices. I had such a joyful summer playing the beautiful and funny pieces from ‘My Seaside Notebook’ by Angeline Bell.

Why is exploring music by diverse composers is so important?
> It helps students feel seen, welcomed, and encouraged
> It broadens their understanding of the world through sound.
> Learning about composers from around the globe — past and present — brings fresh perspectives and deepens our connection to each other.

I'm excited to introduce my students to music by Black composers curated (and composed) by Leah Claiborne and the evocative works of Japanese composer Naoko Ikeda.
