We hope all of our students, families and staff have had a fantastic summer break so far and have been enjoying some well‑earned rest and sunshine.

Behind the scenes, we're already busy preparing for another exciting year at Kingdown, and we're looking forward to welcoming our students back through the gates very soon.

We're excited to welcome our new Year 7 and Year 12 students as they begin the next stage of their journey, and we can't wait to see the rest of our school community back together on Friday.

🌟 That's a Wrap on Another Fantastic Year at Kingdown 🌟

As we reach the end of the academic year, we're taking a moment to reflect on what has been a truly memorable year for our school community.

From the classroom to the stage, from the sports field to university visits, our students have embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, determination and kindness.

This year has seen students:

🎭 Perform in productions, concerts, dance festivals, KingFest and the first ever Kingdown Fringe
🏆 Achieve success in sport, leadership, Duke of Edinburgh, music and the arts
📚 Explore future pathways through careers events, university visits and work experience
🗳️ Make their voices heard through Youth Council elections and community projects
🌿 Support local causes through fundraising, volunteering and environmental initiatives
🌍 Represent Kingdown on trips both at home and abroad
🎓 Complete exams and prepare for exciting next steps beyond school

We've celebrated achievements through Awards Assemblies, cheered on our athletes at Sports Day, and enjoyed landmark moments including Year 11 Prom and the Year 13 Summer Ball.

To our Year 11 and Year 13 students, thank you for everything you have contributed to Kingdown. We wish you every success as you move on to the next stage of your journey.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible staff, whose dedication, care and commitment make so many opportunities possible, and to our families and wider community for your continued support throughout the year.

Most of all, thank you to our students. Your energy, creativity, resilience and spirit make Kingdown such a special place to be.

We wish everyone a restful, safe and sunshine-filled summer break.

🌟 Leaders Wanted for Kingdown Summer School!

We're looking for enthusiastic students to support this year's Kingdown Summer School and help make it a fantastic experience for our incoming students.

The opportunities available include:
🏅 Multi Sports – supporting PE staff with activities
🌳 Forest Schools – helping in the Nature Reserve alongside our Forest School Leader
🎥 Tech Crew – filming activities throughout the week and helping create a Summer School highlights video

These are brilliant opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, build confidence, gain valuable experience, and play an important role in welcoming the next generation of Kingdown students.

⏳ Time is running out to sign up! With the summer holidays fast approaching, students who would like to get involved should visit the PE Office as soon as possible. The sign-up sheet is available in Mr Widger's office.

A huge thank-you to all of our student leaders who give their time and energy to opportunities like these, your support makes a real difference! 🌟

With the warm weather set to continue, we would like to ensure that all students remain as comfortable as possible during the school day.

From Monday, students may wear their PE kit to school every day until the end of term. This will help them stay cool while continuing to meet our expectations for appropriate school attire.
Please ensure that PE kit follows our usual uniform expectations.

This should consist of:
• Black shorts or black tracksuit bottoms (Nike Pro shorts, and other skin-tight shorts, are not permitted as part of the school PE kit).
• A red Kingdown polo shirt

Please note that only trainers are permitted. For health and safety reasons, crocs, flip-flops and sandals are not allowed.

🎭 Another unforgettable night at The Kingdown Fringe.

Last night, our KS3 cast of Romeo & Juliet performed to a virtually sold-out Drama Studio and delivered a production that exceeded every expectation.

On one of the hottest evenings of the year, our students took on Shakespeare's most famous tragedy with energy, confidence, humour, and remarkable maturity. The result was a performance that captivated the audience from beginning to end.

What made the evening even more special was that this was a truly student-led production. From directing and rehearsing the cast to managing the backstage operation and technical elements, students were at the heart of bringing this ambitious production to life.

The word phenomenal is not one we use often, or lightly, but it feels entirely appropriate here. The commitment, talent, and teamwork on display were exceptional, and every member of the company should be enormously proud of what they achieved.

A huge congratulations to our cast, directors, backstage crew, and technical team for creating such a memorable evening and for continuing what has already been an outstanding first Kingdown Fringe.

🎭 The Kingdown Fringe is officially underway!
Last night, we opened the inaugural Kingdown Fringe with Wishing Life Away: an original one-person play written, directed, and performed by one of our Year 13 students, Freddie.

What audiences witnessed was something genuinely special. Original student writing reaching the stage is rare. A student then taking on the challenge of directing and performing that work themselves is rarer still.

Over the course of the evening, our audience laughed, reflected, and, for many, was moved to tears by its honest and heartfelt portrayal of growing up in the 21st century. Funny, moving, and deeply human, Wishing Life Away was a remarkable piece of theatre and a powerful reminder of the creativity, courage, and talent of our young people.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in bringing the production to life, and especially to its writer, director, and performer. Opening the first ever Kingdown Fringe in such an unforgettable way has set a very high bar for the rest of the week.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Due to the hot weather forecast for this week, students may wear their PE kit to school.
This should consist of:
• Black shorts or black tracksuit bottoms
• A red Kingdown polo shirt
Please note that only trainers are permitted. For health and safety reasons, crocs, flip-flops and sandals are not allowed.

Students are also reminded to bring a water bottle to school every day.

Awards assembly will be going ahead this week, our Hall is very warm so please dress appropriately and bring plenty of water with you.

⭐ Enhanced Transition – Welcoming Our Future Year 7 Students ⭐

Over the past few weeks, we have been delighted to welcome some of our incoming Year 7 students to our Enhanced Transition sessions.

These visits have provided opportunities for students to become familiar with their new school environment, meet key members of staff, build confidence, and develop new friendships ahead of September. Students have enjoyed a range of activities, from hands-on science experiments to team-building challenges, while also getting to know the routines and expectations of secondary school.

It has been wonderful to see confidence grow with each visit, and we are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, resilience and positivity shown by all of our future Year 7 students.

We look forward to welcoming them back for the Year 7 Transition Days on 7th and 8th July, as they continue their journey towards becoming part of the Kingdown community.

🏆 Millennium House: Celebrating Team Spirit, Competition and a Special Milestone

It has been a memorable week for Millennium House, with two fantastic reasons to celebrate.

On Monday, students came together for a special inter‑tutor rounders competition, organised with fantastic support by Miss Sutton and Mr Rutty to mark the end of an era as we celebrated Mrs Twigger's tenth and final year as Head of Millennium House. Over the past decade, Mrs Twigger has led Millennium with dedication, enthusiasm and immense House pride, and it was wonderful to bring students together for this one‑off event in her honour.

The competition itself was fiercely contested, with every student taking part and demonstrating excellent teamwork, sportsmanship and determination. After an exciting afternoon of matches, the final came down to 7 MIDY and 10 MIHR. With the scores tied at 10.5 rounders each and catches unable to separate the teams, brave volunteers stepped forward for a dramatic decider, with 10 MIHR ultimately claiming victory.

The celebrations didn't stop there.

Throughout the year, tutor groups have competed in the annual Millennium Challenge, tackling everything from building houses out of cheese crackers and paper aeroplane competitions to Pictionary and the first ever live tutor challenge. After months of competition, the results are finally in, and this year's champions are MITH, who secured victory by an impressive eight‑point margin. To say Ms Thomas was pleased would be an understatement!

A huge well done to all Millennium students for embracing these events with such enthusiasm, and thank you to the staff who helped make them possible. Most of all, thank you to Mrs Twigger for ten wonderful years leading Millennium House and inspiring countless students along the way. 🌟

🌟 What a Day... and What a Week Ahead!
Yesterday was one of those wonderfully busy Kingdown days that reminds us just how much can happen in a school community. From Sports Day to our Year 11 Prom and Year 13 Leavers' Ball, it was a day full of achievement, celebration and memories that will last long after this academic year comes to an end.
And somehow, with just two weeks left of term, we're still not slowing down!
One of the highlights of next week will be our rescheduled Awards Assemblies. Following the disruption caused by the extreme heat and school closures, we are delighted to be able to confirm new dates and ensure we can still celebrate the hard work, commitment and achievements of our students before the summer break.
We appreciate that the revised dates are not ideal and may clash with some other events and trips. However, these dates give us the best opportunity to include as many students and families as possible. Celebrating student success is incredibly important to us, and we are looking forward to welcoming award winners and their families to these special events.
