SPORTS DAY

When we made the decision to alter the plans for Sports Day on Tuesday, we were working with the information available at the time – a forecast with highs of 29°C.
Since then, the forecast has changed significantly and, according to the Met Office at the time of writing, it is now expected to reach 36°C on Tuesday.

With this in mind, I no longer feel that the revised measures are adequate, and therefore Sports Day will be moved in its entirety to the reserve date of Tuesday 30th June. I know this may be inconvenient for those of you who have booked time off work, and I apologise for this; however, we must always put the safety of the children first.

I hope you are still able to join us, and I look forward to seeing you there.

WARM WEATHER

As you will no doubt be aware, our area has been issued with an amber weather warning due to the high temperatures forecast from Monday to Thursday.

Having carefully reviewed the guidance from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) provided to schools, and following the advice of Pickwick Academy Trust, both the school and nursery will remain open this week with mitigating adjustments in place.

We will be taking a number of measures to ensure that we maintain a safe environment, including:

Opening windows early in the morning and closing them as the temperature outside rises

Allowing children to wear their PE kit

Allowing children to keep water bottles near them and encouraging them to drink regularly

Advising against vigorous activity at break times and encouraging children to stay in the shade; we will also reduce the amount of time children spend outside at lunchtime

Advising that children do not wear jumpers or cardigans

Reducing the use of lights and electronic equipment where possible

Using fans and ensuring ventilation in classrooms most affected

Considering changes of teaching spaces if required

Using the air conditioning in the nursery buildings

Please could I ask that you:
💧 Send your child(ren) to school with a water bottle.

👒 Send your child(ren) to school with a sun hat (ideally one with a wide brim).

🌞 Apply sun cream before school and send some in your child’s bag so it can be reapplied (please ensure this is clearly named).

Staff have been briefed according to the Heat Action Card issued to schools by the UKHSA and we will vigilantly monitor children throughout the week and continue to dynamically risk assess the situation.

We look forward to welcoming you to school and nursery tomorrow.

Encouraging green fingers at a young age. 🥦🫑🥕🌻🌷⚘
Wonderful improvements at our Bumbletots section.
Thank you to all those that have worked so hard, especially in this heat, to create more opportunities to allow our littlest children another avenue to explore their creative side.
We look forward to seeing what they will grow.

We are looking to appoint a committed Nursery Room Leader to support the care and learning of 2- and 3-year-olds, working closely with the Nursery Teacher to plan engaging activities and lead a small team. The role involves ensuring a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment, while building positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting children’s early development, promoting curiosity, independence, and a love of learning through high-quality provision. You will also contribute to the day-to-day organisation of the setting, supporting colleagues and maintaining high standards of care, learning, and safeguarding at all times.

Closing date: Midday, Fri 29th May, 2026. View full details and apply online at MyNewTerm.
