After a long break, even familiar routines can feel new again. Children may be more tired, emotional or need a little extra reassurance as they readjust.

A warm welcome, predictable routines and plenty of connection can help them feel safe and secure again.

They don’t need to bounce straight back into everything on day one, sometimes the best thing we can do is give them a little time.

FAQ Friday: How can I help my child get back into a routine after the holidays?

A few gentle tweaks can make things easier:

- start bringing bedtime a little earlier
- get up closer to your usual morning time
- reintroduce regular mealtimes
- talk positively about what’s coming next
- get clothes, bags and other bits ready in advance

You don’t need to change everything overnight. A gradual reset over a few days can help the first week feel much smoother.
