Hi everyone 👋
I wanted to reintroduce myself as I begin an exciting new chapter. I’m Kerri, the owner and teacher behind Super Phonics. After 19 years in the classroom, I’m stepping away from teaching in schools and will now be working more closely with local families in a more personal way.
I offer small group tuition for children, with fun and engaging sessions designed to build confidence in maths, reading, and writing, while supporting each child at their own pace.
With many years of experience of supporting children with a range of needs, I’m passionate about helping children feel confident and successful as they learn.
If you’d like to find out more, comment below or send me a message — I’m always happy to help.
Kerri 😊

Have you been thinking about extra support for your little one but not sure what to expect? Let me paint you a picture… 🎨

At Super Phonics tutoring sessions, your child can look forward to:
📚 Hands-on, interactive learning — sessions are built around what children love, using their interests to make learning feel like play
👫 New friends! — small groups of up to 4 children of a similar ability, so they can bounce ideas off each other, play games together, and grow in confidence side by side
⭐ An experienced teacher in their corner — I’m bringing 19 years of EYFS and KS1 classroom experience to every single session, in a small group setting where every child gets to truly thrive!

This isn’t just tutoring. It’s a warm, fun, supportive space where your child can grow — and actually enjoy it. 💛

Sessions are launching in Croydon this September. Spaces are limited to just 4 children per group, so join the waitlist early via the link in my bio!

🎄I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed some special time together 🎄

Decorate the tree was a firm favourite during some tutoring sessions and is so easy to set up for home or the classroom.

I created trees using glitter pipe cleaners and wrote on our target sounds.

🎄 Roll the Phase 2 or Phase 3 phonics sound dice
🎄 Say the sound aloud
🎄 Find the matching sound on the Christmas tree
🎄 Thread a bead to decorate the tree

A simple, hands-on way to keep phonics practice playful while supporting early reading and sound recognition. Activities like this are perfect for children in EYFS and Key Stage 1, helping to build confidence with sounds through movement and repetition.

If you’re looking for engaging ways to support early reading at home or in school, my phonics dice are designed to work alongside popular schemes and make learning feel like a game. Find them in the link in my bio.

I love how this activity engaged my most reluctant writers to get writing. All this amazing writing you can see was done in less than an hour during my English lesson. It features my Phase 2, 3 & 4 Tricky word dice.
Thank you to for sharing your activity idea

Why is there a Phonics Screening Check? ⁣
Since 2012 the Year One phonics screening check has been a statutory requirement for schools, this means that all schools HAVE to test the Year One pupils. The aim of the test is to provide a national benchmark for phonic decoding and help schools consider whether they are setting sufficiently high enough expectations. Decoding is a key skill in learning to read so it’s very important to help your children learn the skill, not just to pass the test but to support their early reading skills.⁣

What is a trigraph?
A trigraph is where three letters make one sound e.g. igh, air, ure etc. They are normally taught after some of the digraphs in phase 3. Some schools call them special friends rather than the official terminology. Children are asked to identify them before they try to sound out and read the word as this makes blending the sounds easier. Many children find them tricky so lots of practice identifying them in words is helpful. ⁣

Who’s child loves stickers???
Did you know that stickers are amazing for developing many skills. Things like:
⭐️ Visual scanning - looking for that perfect sticker on the sheet.
⭐️ Hand strength - building hand muscles by peeling stickers.
⭐️ Developing a pincer grip - Using those punchy fingers to grab and peel that sticker.
⭐️ Bilateral hand coordination - using two hands. One hand to hold the sticker sheet and one hand to peel the stickers.

In my Easter activity box you can work on all these skills and more by making the egg sun catcher decoration!
