🚫 Scammers Targeting Learner Drivers
It’s a tough time for learner drivers right now.
Not only are tests harder to book, but scammers are taking advantage of the delays tricking people out of their money and even putting lives at risk.
Here are the latest scams you should be aware of 👇
1️⃣ Fake Driving Instructors
The DVSA has revealed it is cracking down on unqualified “instructors.”
Police have already stopped and arrested people pretending to teach driving lessons some charging over £35 an hour without being approved.
A genuine instructor will always display an official DVSA badge in their windscreen.
🟢 Green badge = fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)
🔴 Pink badge = licensed trainee instructor (still legally allowed to teach)
You can verify your instructor’s name on the DVSA official database by postcode.
If you suspect a fake instructor, report them directly to the DVSA.
2️⃣ TikTok Licence Scams
Criminals on TikTok are claiming they can get you a “full licence” for around £800 just by sending your provisional.
What you’ll receive is a fake licence, and using one could lead to up to 10 years in prison.
These accounts are not linked to the DVLA.
If you’ve been targeted, contact Action Fraud and the police immediately.
3️⃣ Fake News and False Advice
Social media is full of posts spreading bad information.
One recent example claimed learners can drive alone after a certain number of hours.
This is completely false.
Until you pass your test, you must always be supervised by a qualified instructor or a full licence holder aged 21 or over who has held their licence for at least 3 years.
When in doubt always ask your instructor.
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
Stay alert.

In the Life of a Driving Instructor
I sit with a smile, my foot near the brake,
Each lesson’s a gamble, how much will it take?
“Left at the junction!” I cheerfully say,
They slam it in reverse and head the wrong way.
Indicators flicker at random, no plan,
Some signal for Tesco, the neighbour, the van.
One forgets mirrors, one forgets gears,
One forgets everything including my tears.
The biting point’s lost in a black hole of doom,
We’ve been here so long I could wallpaper the room.
“Don’t stall on the hill,” I whisper, then pray,
We’ve rolled back a mile but hey, it’s okay.
Roundabouts? Chaos. Exits? Unknown.
They circle for hours like a UFO drone.
And parking?
Let’s just not mention the kerb…
My fake calm voice masks each internal blurb.
But despite all the madness, the chaos, the fear,
I do it with patience, I do it with cheer.
For the joy when they pass that big beaming grin.
Makes every grey hair feel worth it again.
