Tonight, on the 12th of August 2026, the UK will witness an amazing partial solar eclipse. The Earth, Sun, and Moon will align and from our perspective, around 90% of the Sun will be blocked by the Moon. We took the opportunity today to speak to the children about the eclipse and with Carol’s help, we made moving eclipse paintings, with butterfly pins so the children can move their moons around their suns.
This links in with understanding of the world and I think everyone will agree they are FANTASTIC! Well done children - we hope everyone gets to see the eclipse later on but remember do not look directly at it 🌘😎☀️🌙

What do we do during ANOTHER hot afternoon? We make jam tarts 🥴🥴🥴 OF COURSE WE DO!

However, we stayed cool, we greased our tin, cut out our circles and prepped the jam (with a little bit of ‘accidental’ jam dipping from some 😂)

*DISCLAIMER* hands were thoroughly washed before the activity and we made sure we knew which jam tarts were the ‘jam dippers’ 😂

Some of our older children focusing on literacy and physical development with letter formation, cutting and sticking. Promoting recognition of letters and pencil control.
Also some very concise threading going on, using micro pasta tubes (which isn’t easy!) yet with some help from Vicki, the children were able to thread and create their own little necklaces. This also works on fine motor skills, physical development and promotes finger gym usage, building up the finger muscles! 🤩
