Mallam Bala Muhammad teaches Mass Communication at Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria. He wrote the Daily Trust Saturday Column (back page) for fifteen unbroken years from 2006 to 2021, and also sat on the newspaper’s Editorial Board. He has worked as radio producer/presenter at BBC World Service in London, and as correspondent of Deutsche Welle (DW) in Egypt, South Africa and Nigeria. He had also written for The Guardian (Lagos, Nigeria), Al Ahram Weekly (Cairo, Egypt) and Impact International (London, UK). He was a Press Secretary to former Nigeria’s Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and was pioneer Director General of Kano State Directorate of Societal Reorientation, doubling as Special Adviser to one-time Kano State Governor on Strategic Communications. He has consulted for the World Bank, DFID, UNDP, ICRC, Government of Japan and many others. He studied at Bayero University, Kano; the American University in Cairo, Egypt; the University of Westminster in London, UK; and the University of Kwazulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. Muhammad speaks English, Hausa and Arabic.

Dr. Muhammad Shakir Balogun is a graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Medical School. Also a graduate of the Nigeria FELTP. Completed his specialty training in Medical Microbiology at ABU Teaching Hospital, Zaria in 2015. As a Medical Microbiology resident, he instructed medical students of the Ahmadu Bello University in Medical Microbiology and Immunology.
He was in the first cohort of the GIBACHT Fellowship (2014-2015) in Infectious Disease Epidemiology. The Fellowship was a partnership between AFENET, Bernard-Nocht Institute in Hamburg, Robert Koch Institute in Berlin and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.
In 2015, he became the first Resident Advisor of the Nigeria Frontline FETP program which trained more than 1000 disease surveillance officers from 15 states from all the 6 geopolitical zones between 2016 and 2018.
He has been teaching and mentoring residents of the Nigeria FELTP since 2013. In October 2017, he became the Resident Advisor of the Nigeria FELTP. In NFELTP, he teaches topics in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Teaching and Mentoring, Laboratory Methods, and Laboratory Management. Successful application for TEPHINET accreditation in 2018 was one of his major achievements since he became the Resident Advisor.
He has published over 80 scientific papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has shared his scientific findings in local and international conferences, with more than 100 conference papers to his name. He has been a reviewer for scientific journals like BMC Infectious Disease, BMC Public Health, PLoS One, Annals of Nigerian Medicine, Annals of Tropical Medicine, Nigerian Journal of Clinical Practice, Pan African Medical Journal, and the Journal of Interventional Epidemiology and Public Health.
He has led, participated in, and supervised disease outbreak responses and other public health emergencies including COVID-19, botulinum food poisoning, cholera, monkey pox, meningitis, measles, yellow fever, Lassa fever. He also provides epidemiological services to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control especially in Health Security.
At African Field Epidemiology Network, he has led teams working on Field Epidemiology Training, National Public Health Institute Strengthening, Regional Acute Febrile Illness Surveillance, Wildlife Surveillance (monkey pox project), Acute Flaccid Paralysis Surveillance and Routine Immunization, and President’s Malaria Initiative.

"To prepare himself for a career that spans five sectors, Dr Ibraheem Dooba studied for six degrees from four continents. He has worked in the following sectors: computing, journalism, education, agriculture, and finance. His career straddles both the public and private sectors. Some of the world-class institutions he attended include Harvard, London School of Journalism, and Stanford University.
1. Computing/Information Technology
Dooba was the Special Adviser on ICT to the Governor of Niger State. He has a PhD in IT from the University of Technology Petronas, the leading private university in Malaysia and most of Southeast Asia. He also attended Stanford University‘s prestigious Advanced CyberSecurity Program (ACSP). In the six-month program, he rose to the first position on the class leaderboard within two months. There, he was taught by the best cyber security experts in the world, such as Professor Dan Boneh.
Among his accomplishments as an IT expert, he helped PETRONAS (described by the New Yorker as best managed oil company in the world) to design, engineer and build its Plant Risk Inspection (PRI) software application used to monitor safety and maintenance of assets worth billions of dollars around the world. He also helped design and build at least 50 web applications and websites for organizations and individuals.
Dr Dooba is the founder/CEO of Mentor10 Software Engineering which mentors Arewa youth in the tech field and helps them to get relevant jobs through boot camps. For example, during the lockdown of 2020, he opened an online school where 500 students and their parents learned HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Dooba has been headhunted by Amazon and many tech companies. He has trained many boards and senior management of both public and private institutions in information security and management.
2. Journalism/Writing
He was the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Niger State. He was a member of the Editorial Board of the Daily Trust. Ibraheem has a master's degree in Journalism, honours diploma in Media Law from London School of Journalism and professional writing certificate from Iowa State University. He was the Southeast Asia correspondent for the Daily Trust. He was a Contributing editor for Success Digest magazine and a media consultant to the Senate Judiciary Committee. He has written for the Tribune, Sahara Reporters, Gamji and was a columnist for the LEADERSHIP newspaper. His column (Prof Brainy) in the Daily Trust has been running for 20 years. Dr Dooba has written more than 15 books some of which are on Amazon - including “The Social Science of Muhammad (SAW)”, “Impromptu Speaking Genius” and “The Secret of Straight-A Students.” He has a poetry collection titled “Rhymes from Africa.”
3. Finance
Dr Dooba graduated with first class in Business from Swiss Management Center. He did a BA in Business and Management from Leeds Metropolitan University. He was the Chief Data Scientist for Retirement Benefits Advisory (RBA), West Africa’s foremost pension firm. He was the Niger State focal officer at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other financial institutions. He is on the board of a number of companies.
4. Education
He also did his second master’s degree in psychology (of education). Dooba has more than 20 years teaching experience - from kindergarten to the graduate school. At the undergraduate level, he taught web applications development, backend development, and taught academic writing and research methods at the graduate level.
Ibraheem Dooba was the head of school of Esteem Learning Centre Abuja where he managed 200 staff. He has also been a PTA Chairman. Dr Dooba is the Editor-in-Chief of JASES (Journal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Sustainability).
5. Agriculture
Dr Dooba is the CEO of DoobaGrow and has facilitated the disbursement of billions of naira in agricultural interventions funding. He led the management team of Bobi Grazing Reserve- which has 42,000 hectares.
Dr Dooba’s research into the rapid propagation of Super Napier Grass has helped many farmers. However, his favorite agricultural activity is the planting of fruit trees. Right now, he is planting 200 million trees in his country - one tree for every Nigerian.
In 2022, he wrote and launched 10 books. But his passion is tree planting. That’s why he describes himself as “the most obsessed tree planter in the world”.
Also, in 2022, Ibraheem was accepted into the exclusive ALIWA ASPEN Institute Leadership Network.
