Over the weekend we had some lovely, little new arrivals at Pippins. From our original 24 eggs we now have 11 beautiful, tiny, fluffy ducklings 🐥.
We will be keeping them with us at Pippins to love and care for until they are big enough to go to their new homes.

Safari Stu came in to see us today with his amazing animals. We were lucky enough to be able to get close to some extraordinary creatures like a Madagascan Hissing Cockroach, a Herman’s Tortoise, a Lesser Tenrec, a Giant Katydid, Skinny Pigs, a Royal Python and a Curly Haired Tarantula. 🕷️🐛🐜🐞🦟🪲🕷️🐜🐞🐌🪳🦟🐛🦋🐞🐜🕷️🪳🐛🦋

This week we have been celebrating Mini beasts, which perfectly coincided with Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday.
We have made jam jar terrariums, dug for worms in the tuff tray (not real ones, no worms were harmed!) and read ‘Life in the Undergrowth’ by David Attenborough.
We had a birthday party to celebrate Sir David reaching the grand old age of 100!! 🕷️🐜🐛🐞🪳🪲🦟🪳🕷️🐜🪲🦋🐛🦟🦋🐜🕷️🪳🐛🐞🪲

🐏🦋Pegston Hills Nature Reserve🦋🐑
Today we have been very lucky to have had a trip to Pegston Hills with Richard who works for The Wildlife Trust. We went on a butterfly hunt for chalk grassland butterflies. We saw 9 highland cows and the 3 different types of rare breed sheep and gave them some yummy food. We watched lovely Hope, the Border Collie, round up the sheep and learnt some commands like ‘come by’ and ‘lay’. We had a walk through a cattle hold that is used for looking after the highland cows.
We saw red kites, rabbits, a tiny stoat and listened to the sky larks.

What a Fantastic way to celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday by seeing local conservation in action!!

🐌🐋🐌🐋🐌🐋🐌🐋🐌🐋🐌🐋🐌🐋🐌🐋This week we have been reading our book of the week “The Snail and the Whale”. We have been doing under the sea themed activities like fishing and recreating the story of the the snail and the whale in the tuff tray.
Today we made a gigantic humpback whale. He measured 12 metres long (he’s an adolescent, hasn’t quite made it to the 14-16 metres they generally measure) the children used different shades of blue and grey to make handprints and marks on the paper to create our whale. When he was dry we measured the children next to him to see how many children long he was. 🐋🐌🐋🐌🐋🐌🐋
