Happy World Book Day 2026!😀📚

The English Department have celebrated World Book Day in various ways.📚

This week, Mr Ryan delivered assemblies to KS3 on the theme of stories that shape us.📖

Year 7 have been completing a scavenger hunt, locating posters about books teachers love. This has been a real LasB effort with many teachers across the school taking part and displaying their book choices on their classroom doors.😊

Thanks to the Book Buzz initiative, every student in year 7 has also received a free book- Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell.🐉

And finally, our very own Miss Reid fully embraced World Book Day by dressing up as Harry Potter!🪄

Last week, all of year 10 had the opportunity to take part in the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge.

Students spent the day in a workshop led by a public speaking expert. They learnt and practised public speaking skills throughout the day and all performed a one minute speech to their class during period 5.

The staff from Jack Petchey and the English Department were so impressed with how well all students embraced the challenge of public speaking; stepping out of their comfort zone and making themselves and the school so proud. Well done year 10!

The winners of each class will now take part in an assembly final to decide who will represent the school in the Havering Regional Final of the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge in May.

Good luck to all the finalists!

On Wednesday 24th September, the Year 13 English literature students took part in a Royal Literary Fund - Develop you Writing workshop at the British Library aimed at KS5 students. Led by the brilliant Lizzie Nunnery and James Friel, students were engaged and receptive from beginning to end and many commented that they wished they had the workshop sooner! Thank you to our brilliant students who continue to show the school in the best light and thank you to the British Library and Royal Literary Fund for having us!
